PhD in Sweden for International Students.

Universities pay PhD students in Sweden about 30000 to 34500 SEK per month in salary per month until they are through with their PhD studies, usually 4-5 years.

 

Apart from the salary, there are other benefits including:

  • PhD students can get permanent resident permit after 48 months into their PhD programme and citizenship after 5 years.
  • If you have a baby during your stay in Sweden, you can stay at home full-time with your baby for up to 6 months to 1 year and still get 80% of your PhD salary without affecting your PhD contract.
  • Depending on your age, you will get 28- 35 days per year for vacation with full salary.
  • The university you do your PhD at can in some cases pay for your mobile phone, computers, eye glasses (if needed) etc. You can even get a discount card for getting things at discounted prices when you shop etc.
  • You and your family (especially your children under the age of 18 years) will pay little or nothing for your prescription medication, dental check, children education and hospital care.
  • Your child under 16 years old will receive monthly stipend of about 1250 SEK from the government
