CIFOR-ICRAF PHOTO COMPETITION

Calling all professional photographers, photo enthusiasts, content creators, and nature lovers. Gear up to showcase the stunning beauty and critical importance of our planet’s biodiversity through the lens of your camera. Let’s inspire action to protect the richness of our natural world.

You are invited you to capture the essential role of forests and trees in promoting biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and driving restoration efforts.

ELIGIBILITY:

The CIFOR-ICRAF photo competition welcomes participants aged 18 or older. You are encouraged to use the photography equipment with which you are most comfortable. Employees of CIFOR-ICRAF are not eligible to enter. 

By submitting photos to the competition, the contributor agrees to a creative commons, attribution, non-commercial share-alike license (BY-NC-SA).

By uploading the image, the contributor ensures that the image was taken legally and that they have the right to portray all people or other information contained in the image.

You may submit multiple entries with maximum 3 photos; however, you can only have one ultimate entry in the final round

The uploaded file must include the photo’s title, name, email address, social media handles (if applicable), and a caption stating the following: the subject and location, and a short description of the story behind the picture.

You must have the full copyright to the submitted photos. Therefore, by submitting your entries, you will be presumed to have agreed to accept the contest rules and the terms and conditions.

Please note the following rules:

Entries should not include watermarks, signatures, or captions.

Entries that have previously won other photography competitions will be automatically disqualified.

Submissions featuring children or minors are not eligible.

Entries generated using generative artificial intelligence tools or with their assistance are ineligible.

Images portraying the willful harassment of wildlife will not be accepted.

Photos taken in ways that cause or have caused environmental damage by the photographer, including capturing images in areas where human presence is restricted by authorities or property managers, are not eligible.

Photos taken before the year 2010 will not be eligible.

GCSP PRIZE FOR INNOVATION IN GLOBAL SECURITY

LOCATION: Switzerland

The prize is designed to reach across all relevant disciplines and fields. It is intended to encourage and recognise excellence in contributing to new approaches to enhancing sustainable global security.

ELIGIBILITY:

The prize is awarded for projects by any individual, group of individuals, or organisation (from private or public sectors), which contribute to global security and have been submitted for consideration according to these rules and regulations.

Applications may come from any country, but the projects should go beyond national borders in their reach or thinking and seek to address global security in innovative ways or through new ideas. A broad range of projects could qualify for consideration, including, but not limited to, technological and conceptual innovations, original research, or grassroots initiatives.

The prize is intended to encourage and recognise excellence in contributing to new approaches to enhancing sustainable global security.

The prize is awarded by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), as part of its Programme for Geopolitics and Global Futures, under the Creativity and Innovation Initiative.

Employees and staff of the GCSP, as well as their family members, are not eligible participants.

Applications must be submitted via the online application form in order to be considered for the prize, and shall include:

a project abstract of 250 words maximum;

a well-developed project description which should not exceed 750 words in length;

a description of the technical process of the project submitted (if applicable);

an estimate of the budget required for the project;

an explanation of how the project provides a novel contribution to the field of global security;

a description of the short-term and long-term impact of the project in the field of global security;

up to five image files (optional).

Applications submitted via any other channel will not be considered.

Applications must be in English.

BENEFIT:

The prize for the application coming in first position is CHF 10’000 and a certificate of excellence. The two other finalist applications will receive a certificate of recognition.
