SCHLUMBERGER FOUNDATION FACULTY FOR THE FUTURE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Application Deadline: 10 November, 2023 at 12:00 (noon) Central Standard Time (UTC-6).

LOCATION: Multiple Region

The Faculty for the Future program aims to provide the opportunity to scientific women from developing and emerging countries where women are underrepresented in STEM to pursue a PhD or a Post-Doc in the best universities outside of their home country.

ELIGIBILITY:

If you are a citizen from a developing or emerging country but reside in a developed country for the purpose of pursuing your studies, you are eligible to apply. You are not eligible to apply if you hold dual citizenship one of which is a developed country.

Eligible applicants are preparing for PhD or post-doctoral study in STEM and related fields or cross disciplinary studies involving the major STEM fields. Awards in the biological sciences are limited.

Women of any age are eligible to apply. However, the number of teaching years remaining after the PhD or Post-Doc has been acquired will be taken into account during the selection process.

The Faculty for the Future program aims to provide the opportunity to scientific women from developing and emerging countries to pursue a PhD or a Post-Doc in the best universities abroad. However, in some cases “sandwich programs” are accepted where students spend only a part of the grant year in a Host University abroad. In these cases, however, it is important to note that the final PhD degree must be awarded by the foreign HOST University.

BENEFIT:

Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual expenses to be incurred by the student only. This typically includes university tuition and bench fees, accommodation costs and a living allowance (e.g., food, a small allowance for books and supplies, medical insurance, child care, transport costs) in addition to a budget for initial travel to the host country, visa charges as well as conference expenses. Grants can be up to USD 50,000 per year for PhD courses and a maximum of USD 40,000 for post-doc research programs.

The renewal of the grant is not automatic, but is subject to academic progress, quality of references (a reference from host university supervisor is mandatory) and the discretion of the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program renewal process.

SAVE OUR SEAS FOUNDATION GRANTS OCEAN STORYTELLING PHOTOGRAPHY GRANT

Application Deadline: 13 October 2023 18:00 (CEST)

LOCATION: Geneva, Switzerland

Save Our Seas Foundation are delighted to announce the opening of our emerging Ocean Storytelling Photography Grant. These grants build on the legacy of our previous Marine Conservation Photography Grants, and are dedicated to finding and supporting a new and diverse generation of conservation storytellers.

ELIGIBILITY:

While we are specifically looking for photographers who can tell conservation stories about our oceans, the call is not limited underwater photography. Applicants should think broadly — story topics can range from the animals themselves, to fisheries to the communities whose lives are intertwined with marine life. Four successful grantees will receive a fully-funded assignment to shoot a conservation photo story on location (including day rate and travel), under direct mentorship from the Ocean Storytelling Grant team.

They are particularly seeking to support early career and emerging storytellers and aim to encourage new voices with new perspectives and photographic approaches. As such, applications must have no more than 5 years of professional experience in any photography related discipline. Additionally, over two-thirds of our previous photo grant applicants were male, and almost 80% from North America and Europe. In an effort to actively remedy these imbalances pervasive throughout the industry, we especially encourage women and applicants from South and Central America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and from underrepresented communities to apply for this opportunity. Applications will be accepted both directly via open call and through nomination.

BENEFIT:

Award includes cash prize (2000 USD), day rate for 3–4-week shoot, year of mentorship, all logistical costs for shoot covered.
