WTO ESSAY AWARDS FOR YOUNG ECONOMISTS

Application Deadline: 3 June 2024.

The WTO has issued a call for young economists to submit papers for the 2024 WTO Essay Award. The aim of the award is to promote high-quality research on trade policy and international trade cooperation and to reinforce the relationship between the WTO and the academic community. 

ELIGIBILITY:

The paper must address issues related to trade policy and international trade cooperation.  The author(s) of the paper must possess or be engaged in the completion of a PhD degree and, if over 30 years of age, be no more than two years past a PhD defense. In the case of co-authored papers, this requirement shall apply to all authors. In addition, to be considered for the award, essays cannot exceed 15,000 words.

the CV of the author(s), specifying (i) current affiliation(s), (ii) the academic institution awarding the PhD, (iii) the year (or the expected year) of the PhD, (iv) the date of birth of the author(s).More news on the WTO Essay Award is available here.

BENEFIT:

The annual WTO Essay Award provides a prize of CHF 5,000 to the author(s) of the winning essay. In the case of a co-authored paper, the prize will be equally divided among the authors. The winning paper will be officially announced at the annual meeting of the European Trade Study Group (ETSG), the largest conference specializing in international trade. The award ceremony will take place on 12-14 September 2024 at Athens University in Greece. The winning author will receive funding to attend the meeting.

MANDELA INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (MINDS) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT FOR AFRICAN STUDENTS

LOCATION: Multiple Regions

MINDS’ offers scholarships to Africans who wish to pursue post-graduate studies within Africa, outside of their own countries. Through tailored leadership development activities, the MINDS Scholarship Programme aims to nurture leaders who have a continental development mindset; leaders who will facilitate greater cohesion and cooperation between African countries. Individuals with a Pan-African outlook, demonstrated leadership ability and an excellent academic record who wish to study on the African continent, outside their home country are invited to apply for the scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY:

MINDS Scholarships are awarded to meritorious applicants following a rigorous selection process.  To be considered for a MINDS Scholarship, you must:

Be a national of an African country, residing in any African country

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution/s outside of your country of citizenship and/ or residency

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution/s to pursue postgraduate studies within the following year

Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/ course in the last two completed years of study

Produce evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential guided by the questions/ requirements set out in the application form

Submit a complete online application form (see below) with the required supporting documentation.

BENEFIT:

The Scholarship will cover some or all of the expenses below, depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded:

Tuition

Accommodation and meals

One return ticket per duration of studies

A fixed stipend.

MINDS Scholarships are applicable to full-time studies of a one or two-year Honors or Master’s degree at one of the MINDS preferred institutions (listed below). MINDS does not prescribe the course to be studied.
