DEAKIN UNIVERSITY RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM    SCHOLARSHIP (RTP)  / DEAKIN UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH  SCHOLARSHIP (DUPR) 

The application for the 2027 international round opens 6 July 2026 and closes 23 August 2026 (February 2027 intake).

LOCATION: Australia

RTP scholarships are funded by the Australian Government, while DUPR scholarships are funded by Deakin. Both are available to domestic and international candidates. Only top-ranked applicants will be offered an RTP.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for an RTP Stipend, RTP Fees Offset, RTP Allowance or DUPRS an applicant must be a domestic or international student enrolled in a graduate research course of study at Deakin University.

To be eligible for an RTP Fees Offset an applicant must not be receiving an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset graduate research fees.

RTP and DUPRS Stipends will be awarded to candidates as the result of a competitive process outlined in the ranking guidelines below. Candidates receiving an RTP or DUPRS Stipend will be enrolled as on-campus full-time students.

Applicants for an RTP or DUPRS stipend must have the following:

Completed at least four years of tertiary education studies

Achieved 80% or equivalent in the research component of their previous study or an equivalent level of academic attainment, taking into account previous study, relevant work experience, research publications and other research experience

Met all other minimum entry requirements according to the Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) Admission, Selection and Enrolment Procedure. 

Currently enrolled graduate research candidates can apply for an RTP or DUPRS Stipend and will be assessed by the Faculty/Institute. Currently enrolled graduate researchers may not apply after they have completed more than three years of their doctoral course or two years of their masters course (or part-time equivalent).

BENEFIT:

A stipend of $37,450 per annum, tax-exempt

A relocation allowance from $500 to $1,500 (for single to family) is awarded to candidates who are moving from interstate or overseas in order to study at Deakin.

For international candidates only: A single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy for the duration of the student visa.

Duration:

Doctoral degree: three years for stipend and four years for the tuition fees offset.

Research master’s degree: two years for stipend and two years for the tuition fees offset.

UNIVERSITY OF PORTSMOUTH DEAN’S GLOBAL LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP FOR PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences champions international students who are driven to lead, influence, and deliver change in public service. The Dean’s Global Leadership Scholarship for Public Administration is awarded to exceptional candidates beginning their studies in September 2026, backing talent, ambition, and leadership potential with the support needed to achieve academic excellence and create lasting global impact.

ELIGIBILITY:

This competitive scholarship is available to self‑funded, international students enrolling in the full‑time, on‑campus MPA programme. Eligibility and consideration for the award require completion of the scholarship application form as part of the admissions process.

You must hold an offer for the Master of Public Administration course. You must have applied as a self-funded student on a full-time basis, on campus, for September 2026 entry.  

The scholarship is not available for students who have previously studied at the University of Portsmouth. 

The scholarship will take the form of a £4,000 fee reduction, effective at the time of registration and will only apply to your first year of study. Five scholarship awards are available for September 2026. 

Applicants for the Dean’s Global Leadership Scholarship for Public Administration for 2026 must complete the scholarship application form.  

To be considered, you will need to complete the scholarship application form as part of your application by 1st July 2026 (for September 2026 entry).

The scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship, discount, or fee offer.  

Your final discounted tuition fee will be confirmed on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS), which is issued after you hold an unconditional offer and have paid your deposit. 

Only applicants who have been assessed as overseas students for tuition fee purposes can access this scholarship. EU, EEA or Swiss nationals will not be eligible to apply for this scholarship. 

Applications will be evaluated based on the clarity, persuasiveness, and relevance of responses in relation to the focus of the MPA. Applications will be considered by a panel made up of Faculty of Humanities and Social Science academics and Global Engagement colleagues.  

BENEFIT:

Successful applicants will receive a £4,000 reduction in tuition fees, applied to the first year of study.
