Three PhD positions are immediately available at the Centre for Optimization and Decision Science at Curtin University. The research will focus on developing robust adaptive techniques for solving complex problems in mathematical physics. The specific research areas we will explore are
Adaptive scientific deep learning methods for mathematical physics problems governed by partial differential equations (domain decomposition, adaptive quadrature)

Strong mathematical background

Strong analytic abilities

Experience in developing scientific software (using any of these languages/libraries: Python, Julia, C++, C, Fortran, Matlab, Fenics/FeniX, MFem, deal.II, libMesh, PETSc, Trilinos, Pytorch, TensorFlow, Jax, Keras, Pandas)

Ability to read technical papers and analyze/implement methodologies described in them

Strong ability to communicate in writing and orally

Recipients must complete their milestone 1 within 6 months of enrollment, remain enrolled on a full-time basis for the duration of the scholarship, and make satisfactory progress in the research work.

Value: This scholarship provides a living stipend of $32,250.00 p.a. pro rata indexed, based on full-time studies, for up to a maximum of 3 years.

UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE HUMAN RIGHTS GRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is offered to domestic or international students who are enrolling in a graduate research degree and undertaking research in the field of Human Rights.

ELIGIBILITY:

Domestic and international students

Eligible study stage: Future study, Current study

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a Master or Doctorate by research degree for commencement in the year of award

intend to undertake graduate research in the field of Human Rights

have not already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought

not have previously received a graduate research scholarship

Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of academic merit, the area of study and level of commitment to human rights, and the strength of supporting documentation.

This scholarship is subject to the Graduate Research Scholarship Terms & Conditions

The scholarship will be available for awarding in 2026.

You must submit an online application and address your commitment to the peaceful advancement of respect for human rights that extends beyond academic studies (such as voluntary work and/or work experience) and how your proposed research will further your understanding of human rights and enable you to contribute to the human rights field.

BENEFIT:

Living allowance of $43,500 per year pro rata (2025 full-time study rate) for up to 2 years for students undertaking a Master by research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a Doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.

Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a master’s by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

Relocation grant of $2,000 for students moving from States or Territories outside Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia
