SWEDISH INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP FOR PIONEERING WOMEN IN STEM

The Pioneering Women in STEM scholarship supports women who want to lead innovation, tackle complex challenges, and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable societies. The Swedish Institute awards academic scholarships for master’s studies in Sweden to women in Africa and Asia who want to study in the field of STEM.

ELIGIBILITY:

Available for Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam

The scholarship supports full-time, one- or two-year master’s studies at Swedish universities across a range of English-taught programmes focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

To apply, you must:

Be a female citizen of one of the 10 eligible countries in Africa and Asia.

Apply to a STEM-related master’s programme eligible for the Pioneering Women in STEM scholarship.

Be liable to pay tuition fees at University Admissions.

Have documented work and leadership experience.

Not have previously received an SI scholarship for studies or hold a Swedish degree.

9-25 February 2026: The application portal for SI Scholarships is open for two weeks.

26 March 2026: University admissions announcement.

23 April 2026: SI Scholarship announcement.

BENEFIT:

The SI scholarship Pioneering women in STEM is a competitive, fully funded scholarship that includes:

Full tuition fee coverage.  The fee is paid directly by SI to your Swedish university each semester.

A monthly allowance of SEK 12,000 to cover your living expenses throughout the study period.

A travel grant of SEK 15,000. This is a one-time payment and does not apply to students already living in Sweden.

Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals (NFGP)—a platform to help you grow professionally and build a network while in Sweden.

After your scholarship period has ended, you become a member of the Sweden Alumni Network. As a member, you get a unique opportunity for continued networking and professional development.

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM (RTP) STIPEND SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION: Australia

Each year the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training provides funding to Universities to award scholarships to domestic and international students undertaking Higher Degree Research programs. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Student types: Domestic, International, Current, Prospective

Student levels: Postgraduate research

Selection bases: Academic merit

Ongoing eligibility: Continuation based on academic performance

Extension duration: 6-month extension available.

The Commonwealth Scholarship Guidelines (Research) 2017 set the basis for the conditions of award and outline the basic eligibility requirements for this scholarship.

Candidates are ranked, and scholarships are awarded based on a competitive ranking process to the top-ranked candidates, subject to evidence they meet merit-based selection criteria and subject to confirmation of a qualified supervisor, space and resources being available, in an area of research that is aligned with ANU research strategy.

Commencing students: No application is required specifically for this scholarship, as all eligible candidates will be considered. Note to ensure you are considered, please ensure you select the appropriate boxes in the admissions application form to note that you are interested in being considered for any available scholarships. 

Continuing students: Please complete and return the “Request for a Current ANU Student to be Considered for an HDR Scholarship” form to your Academic College.

VALUE $39,069 per annum (Full-time base RTP stipend rate 2026) per annum
