The Maxwell King Scholarship (MKS) is named after Professor Maxwell King, who has made an outstanding contribution to graduate research at Monash University, including eight years as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training).
This prestigious scholarship is available to help support a student undertaking a PhD with living costs while studying at a Monash campus in Australia.
ELIGIBILITY:
You must be one of the following:
An Australian citizen
A New Zealand citizen
Australian permanent resident
Australian humanitarian visa holder
An International student
You must meet the following criteria:
Have submitted a scholarship application in the current year;
Meet Monash’s competitive scholarship selection process requirements; and
Meet Monash English language proficiency requirements.
This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.
Monash scholarships are highly competitive and are awarded based on academic excellence, research outputs and prior research experience.
The standard RTP Scholarships terms and conditions as outlined in the RTP Scholarship Procedures apply, with the exceptions outlined in the eligibility criteria above.
BENEFIT:
Total scholarship value: $53,608 p.a (2026 rate)
The MKS provides:
A living allowance (stipend);
A research allowance; and
A relocation allowance, if eligible.
Number offered: Two scholarships per year:
One in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) disciplines.
One in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
