CMU AFRICA/MINDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

LOCATION: Rwanda

The Scholarship Programme enables African students to study at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, an African institution in a country other than their home country, and immerse themselves in the richness and diversity that the country and its communities have to offer.

ELIGIBILITY:

MINDS Scholarships are awarded to meritorious applicants following a rigorous selection process.  To be considered for a MINDS Scholarship, you must:

Be a national of an African country, residing in any African country

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution/s outside of your country of citizenship and/ or residency

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution/s to pursue postgraduate studies within the following year

Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/ course in the last two completed years of study

Produce evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential guided by the questions/ requirements set out in the application form

Submit a complete online application form (see below) with the required supporting documentation.

Individuals with a Pan-African outlook, demonstrated leadership ability and an excellent academic record who wish to study on the African continent, outside their home country, are invited to apply for the scholarships.

The Scholarship will cover some or all of the expenses below, depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded:

Tuition

Accommodation and meals

One return ticket per duration of studies

A fixed stipend.

DAAD IN-COUNTRY/IN-REGION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME: SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA CALL FOR MASTER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS 2025 AT DEDAN KIMATHI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY IN KENYA

LOCATION: Kenya

The programme aims to foster strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. For this purpose, scholarships for development-related Master’s studies are awarded to individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants for a Master’s degree

graduates with a first academic degree, who have successfully completed a three-year university degree with above average results (at least: Second Class/Upper Division or equivalent, if applicable). Candidates who cannot provide a Second Class/Upper Division or a higher result are not eligible;

clearly show motivation and strong commitment;

have thorough knowledge of the language of instruction;

have completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application;

must be nationals or permanent residents of a Sub-Saharan African country;

should be staff member of a public university,

or a candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment,

or from the public sector and/or Alumni of the DAFI-programme.

Fresh graduates, professionals and other candidates who do not fit in the above- mentioned areas are also invited to apply for the programme.

 Female applicants, refugees with recognised refugee status and candidates from other less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Please note: If you have already received a Master’s scholarship from the DAAD, further Master’s funding from the DAAD is not possible.

Please note: The Dedan Kimathi University of Technology might have additional requirements for admission to the university.

BENEFIT:

The scholarship covers:

Tuition Fees

Study and research allowance: 460 EUR

Thesis publishing costs: 400 EUR

Monthly Scholarship (Accommodation, food etc.): In-Country: 400 EUR; In-Region: 500 EUR

Travel allowance (In-Region only)

Health insurance (In-Region only)

DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders in the framework of research-based Master programmes are also

encouraged to apply for a short-term research stay in Germany for 3 to 6 months.

Please note:

The short-term research stay in Germany should preferably be communicated in the application for the regular scholarship and can only be awarded if the necessary financial means are available.

If you would like to apply, please note that the funding period for a shortterm research stay in Germany is part of the In-Country/In-Region programme and the regular study period of the programme may not be exceeded by the short-term research stay in Germany. It must be included in the regular study period of the In-Country/In-Region programme. Further information will be provided upon request via the DAAD Portal after you have received your In-Country/In-Region scholarship. The short-term research scholarship includes:

a monthly scholarship payment for living costs

health/accident/personal liability insurance

a flat-rate travel allowance

All DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also:

invited to apply for different Summer Schools in Germany (four weeks)

invited to participate in further training possibilities such as E-Trainings.
