CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY AFRICA MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at CMU-Africa supports highly talented, service-oriented young people who face the highest social and economic barriers to opportunity. The graduate students complete their Master of Science degrees in Information Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Engineering Artificial Intelligence. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Mastercard Foundation Scholars face social and economic barriers and have demonstrated the following attributes:

Academic talent: Mastercard Foundation Scholars value learning and have the drive to complete their education.

Commitment to giving back: Mastercard Foundation Scholars have demonstrated a commitment to improving their communities.

Potential to lead: Mastercard Foundation Scholars will become role models, mentors, and change-makers.

In order to be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, students must first be admitted to one of CMU-Africa’s degree programs. Learn more about tuition and financial aid and how to apply to CMU-Africa.

BENEFIT:

Holistic support: The scholarship covers application preparation support, orientation, tuition and fees, health insurance, travel and basic living expenses, project, and entrepreneurship support. Mastercard Foundation Scholars also have access to a range of resources that support their well-being and academic success.

Career preparation: Mastercard Foundation Scholars benefit from tailored activities to prepare them for the workplace. Throughout their studies, they participate in professional development activities including, but not limited to, internship and career fairs, networking opportunities with industry leaders, one-on-one career coaching that prepare them to pursue their goals upon graduation.

Leadership development: Mastercard Foundation Scholars develop leadership skills through participation in student clubs, community service, and a variety of programs that equip students to become change-makers. During their time at CMU-Africa, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars take a series of leadership training sessions tailored to their needs to ensure they are equipped with cutting-edge leadership skills that will enable them to lead with distinction.

Giving back: Mastercard Foundation Scholars live out the give-back ethos of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program by leading and participating in community service activities, developing, and implementing projects that make a difference in the lives of others. They collaborate with the members of the CMU-Africa community to push their give-back agenda.

OXFORD CENTRE FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES (OCIS) SCHOLARSHIPS

LOCATION: England

The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is an institution for the advanced study of Islam and the Muslim world. The Centre provides a meeting point for the Western and Islamic worlds of learning.

ELIGIBILITY:

You must be applying to start a new full-time Master’s or DPhil course at Oxford.

You must be either:

ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom and from a Muslim community (with preference given to those from a financially disadvantaged household), or

a national of, and ordinarily resident in, Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

You should be intending to return to your country of ordinary residence once your course is completed.  

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Financial need will be assessed using the information provided in your Oxford application. 

You should be intending to undertake study in a field derived from or of relevance to the Islamic tradition, or which is of relevance and/or benefit to the Muslim world.

This scholarship is not open to candidates applying for postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma courses, part-time courses or non-matriculated courses.

Candidates who hold deferred offers to start in 2025-26 will not be considered for this scholarship.

BENEFIT:

The scholarship will cover 100% of course fees and a grant for living costs (at least £19,237). Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course. Awards may be offered in conjunction with other sources of funding, although this will be taken into account when determining the value of the award.
