UNIVERSITY OF MAASTRICHT BRIGHTLANDS TALENT SCHOLARSHIP

The UM Brightlands Talent Scholarship program offers four full coverage scholarships (including a tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend) per academic year for a selected number of top-performing non-EU/EEA students with personal development potential that have been (conditionally) admitted to a master’s program connected to the Brightlands campi.

ELIGIBILITY:

All candidates must meet the following requirements:

You hold a nationality of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands. Please check this website before you apply to see in which country you have to collect your MVV visa for the Netherlands. If you already have a residence permit for another Schengen country, you can only apply if this residence permit is still valid until at least 2 September 2025. If your residence permit expires before 2 of September 2025 you can only apply for the Scholarship from your home country via a MVV visa application. You do not have a dual nationality from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland

You have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands. Students who have completed exchange programmes in the Netherlands are welcome to apply

You are not older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2025

You agree to become an active Brightlands and UM ambassador during and after your studies, by committing to share your experiences during at least one (information) session for students and/or other stakeholders

You have  applied for admission to a participating master programme at UM for the 2025-2026 academic year

You meet the specific admission requirements of the UM master programme to which you have applied.

You can only submit an application once, please make sure all documents meet the requirements before you start your application. We cannot add or replace documents after you submit the application.

Duration of the UM Brightlands Talent Scholarship

13 months for a one-year master’s programme

25 months for a two-year master’s programme

KU LEUVEN SCHOLARSHIP FOR AFRICA

This KU Leuven Scholarship for Africa is awarded to an outstanding student from Africa who wishes to pursue a master’s or advanced master’s degree at KU Leuven. KU Leuven is committed to making higher education accessible to students from all backgrounds, regardless of their financial circumstances. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Study level: Master’s programmes and Advanced Master’s programmes

Eligible program(s): All Master’s and Advanced Master’s programmes at KU Leuven (full list)

Eligible Nationalities: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo Republic, Djibouti, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini – Swaziland, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Academic performance: The student has a high level of academic performance and potential. Excellent study results are reflected in a high Grade Point Average (GPA), as shown on the transcript of records. Preference is given to students with excellent study results.

Language proficiency info: Applicants whose first native language is not English must demonstrate an excellent knowledge and command of English, regardless of the minimum score required by the programme. Accepted English language tests are TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge CPE. Preference is given to students who have a very good command of English and exceed the minimum scores.

Academic awards: Applicants will be asked to provided information about any academic awards they may have received.

Programme requirements: applicants will be evaluated on the specific programme requirements and to what extent they exceed the requirements.

Motivation: the highest ranked students will be required to provide a short 1 minute motivation video, explaining how they feel they can make a difference in their field and society as a whole.

BENEFIT:

KU Leuven Scholarship for Africa holders receive a full tuition fee waiver and pay only an annual administration fee. The rate for the 2025-2026 academic year will be announced in December 2024 (indication: the fee in 2023-2024 was €131,50). 

Incoming students receive a one time allowance of €4,000
