UNIVERSITY OF KENT CHRISTINE AND IAN BOLT SCHOLARSHIP

The Christine and Ian Bolt Scholarships were set up in memory of Christine Bolt, Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Kent. Preference will be given to students and to candidates who have not had the opportunity to live or study for an extended period of time in the USA.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must:

Hold an excellent bachelor’s (1st or 2.1), or Master’s degree (merit or distinction);

Hold an offer of a place, or be a currently registered student, for a full-time or part-time postgraduate research or taught degree at the University of Kent for the following academic year within one of the listed Academic Divisions:
Arts and Humanities;

Human and Social Sciences;

Kent Business School; or

Law, Society and Social Justice.

Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to explain their project clearly and without jargon to non-experts,

Convey their passion for their project to a wider audience and convince the panel of the project’s wider value

Act as ‘ambassador’ for both the University and their subject.

The successful applicants will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, achievements to date in their chosen field and their communication skills.

Candidates must be available for video interview, via Zoom, in June 2024, exact date to be confirmed.

To undertake a PhD programme across any of their institutes you must have a minimum of an upper class honours degree (2:1) or overseas equivalent in a related subject area.

In order to submit an application to our PhD programme, you must have agreement from a supervisor, who agrees to supervise you if you are accepted into the programme.

UK students do not need a visa to study at Loughborough University London, but international students should check what is required and how to apply for their visa and other documentation.

BENEFIT:

The PhD studentships normally cover the full cost of tuition fees for 3 years’ full-time study for successful UK, EU and International applicants. Successful UK applicants will normally receive a tax-free stipend which will be given in monthly instalments. Additional funding may be provided for field research, travel and conference expenses.
