THE WORLD FOOD PRIZE NORMAN BORLAUG AWARD FOR FIELD RESEARCH AND APPLICATION,ENDOWED BY THE ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION

The $10,000 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by The Rockefeller Foundation, will be presented every October in Des Moines, Iowa, by the World Food Prize Foundation.

This award will recognize exceptional, science-based achievement in international agriculture and food production by an individual under 40 who has clearly demonstrated intellectual courage, stamina, and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty.

ELIGIBILITY:

Any individual or organization may submit a nomination.  Nomination letters from organizations must be signed by an executive officer. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Nominators should have a direct knowledge of the nominee’s work and should provide a number of specific examples, explaining how the nominee’s accomplishments align with the award criteria.

Letters of support may come from individuals or organizations with a direct knowledge or a basic understanding of the nominee’s work

Nominees must be under the age of 40 (40th birthday not reached before World Food Day, October 16, of the year in which the award is presented).

Nominees must be actively working in the discipline, research area, position, or on the project(s) for which they are being recognized. They may be associated with a public or private educational, research or development organization or related entity.

Nominees remain eligible for consideration beyond the year of their nomination, at the discretion of the Award Jury, as long as the award criteria and age requirement are met.

The award is intended to be presented to one person. In unusual and rare circumstances, another person may share the award for pronounced collaborative efforts and achievement.

The Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application will be presented in a ceremony during World Food Prize Week events in Des Moines, Iowa, on or near World Food Day, October 1

TRANSVERSALIDADES PHOTO CONTEST

Application Deadline: 24 pm on may 12th 2024 (Lisbon time).

LOCATION: Lisbon

The project Transversalities: Photographs without Frontiers uses photography as a means of promoting the inclusion of territories and breaking with processes of exclusion to which vast areas of the planet are subjected by the media. The pictures collected under this contest should portray the diversity of territories, societies and cultures of different continents in order to allow crossed looks on the changes which are taking place in different parts of the world, show different styles of social organization and space, capture signs of continuity and change, archaisms and innovations that manifest themselves in the most populous cities or rural areas, located in the most remote and distant and areas, which are facing depopulation.

ELIGIBILITY:

Registration is free and universal.

Each candidate may only submit one portfolio with six (6) photos about a single subject of the contest

Applications will be submitted electronically through the http://www.cei.pt website and contestants must submit:

the application form properly filled with the following fields: personal information about the author; description for each photo;

file with portfolio of six (6) photos:

Photos must be numbered from 1 to 6 according to the captions on the form;
ii. The file name must be identified by the identification the number of each contestant: identity card number, passport or other (Ex: 122258045.zip).
iii. File must be send to the e-mail ceibericos.transversalidades@gmail.com or via WeTransfer.

Each contestant will be assigned a code that will identify the candidate before the jury.

The applicant must guarantee that pictures:

are originals

don’t include any identifcation element of its author

have not yet been previously rewarded 

BENEFIT:

Of all participants and photos submitted to the competition will be selected and awarded the following:

General Awards:

The Overall Winner (1) for the best and most complete submitted portfolio will receive a prize money of 1500 Euros.

The Winner of each theme (4) for the best and most complete portfolio will receive 750 Euros.

The Jury will also award up to 12 portfolios, being each one awarded with 150 Euros.

Special Awards:

For a Portuguese competitor: prize money of EUR 500,00 (five hundred euros);

For a competitor from the Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP): prize money of EUR 500,00 (five hundred euros).
