NLNG THE NIGERIA PRIZE FOR LITERATURE 2025

Entries are hereby invited to The Nigeria Prize for Literature. The yearly literature prize is sponsored by NLNG to honour the author of the best book by a Nigerian. The prize rotates among four literary genres – Prose Fiction, Poetry, Drama and Children’s Literature. This year, the competition is for Prose Fiction.

ELIGIBILITY:

All applicants must submit their entries accompanied by an application form obtainable online from The Nigeria Prizes website, http://www.thenigeriaprizes.org. Completed forms must be printed and submitted along with the entries. Go to http://www.thenigeriaprizes.org for more details on submission.

Twelve (12) copies of the entry and an e-copy of each entry, with evidence of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of Nigerian passport or National Identity Card), may be submitted either by author or publisher. Books should be submitted to NLNG’s External Relations Division, promoters of the prize, by the stipulated deadline.

No book published before 2022 will be accepted.

An author will enter only one published work. Unpublished work will not be considered. No book previously submitted for this competition may be re-submitted at a later date, even if major revisions have been made or a new edition published. The prize will be awarded for no other reason than excellence.

No member of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges, or members of their families can enter their work(s) for the award in the period in which they are serving and five (5) years thereafter. No entries will be accepted from staff of NLNG and their families.

No entry submitted after the stipulated deadline will be accepted.

Failure to meet all stated conditions above will lead to disqualification of the entry.

PURORRELATO MICRO-STORY CONTEST

Application Deadline: 16 April 2024 at 14h (GMT+0)

LOCATION: Spain

Casa África launches the 11th edition of Purorrelato, its micro-story contest that aims to promote literary creation that encourages us to feel and think about Africa and to continue showing different realities that approach us to the continent, away from the stereotypes that have marked it for so long.

The theme is free, although the micro-stories should be related to Africa in some way

ELIGIBILITY:

The story could take place inside or outside the continent and its degree of relation with Africa could range from a detail to the total protagonism of the story. Entry is FREE.

In addition, the micro-stories must be original, unpublished and must not have won a prize or be pending a decision in other contests or competitions. Participants must guarantee that there are no third-party rights over the micro-stories submitted and will be responsible for any claims that may be made in this respect.

The micro-stories could be submitted in Spanish, English, French or Portugueses, with a maximum length of 1500 characters (not words) including spaces and excluding the title.

The stories received will be assessed by a jury composed of African and/or Spanish renowned experts in African literature. The deadline for submission is 16th April 2025 at 14.00 hours (GMT +0).
