CHARLES DARWIN UNIVERSITY HIGHER DEGREE BY RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS

The 2025 Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship round is now open for domestic * and International applications. These scholarships are for commencement in a Higher Degree by Research at CDU between 6 January to 31 March 2025.

The application rounds (domestic and international) for scholarships for commencement in 2025(6 January to 31 March 2025) is open now. The Closing dates and Application Outcomes for the Domestic and International rounds: 

Domestic Closing date -31 October 2024 

Domestic Application Outcomes – Mid- December

 International Closing date – 30 September 2024

International Application Outcomes – Mid- November

ELIGIBILITY:

 Applicants must have a CDU supervisor to apply

Must be enrolled in an accredited HDR course of study at an Australian Higher Education Provider (HEP)

Demonstrate exceptional research potential to undertake an HDR.

Must not receive income from another source to support your general living costs while enrolled in a course of study if that income is greater than 75% of the RTP stipend rate.

BENEFIT:

Australian Government RTP Stipend Scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential to undertake an HDR at an Australian university and are not automatically granted to all students. The scholarships are provided to assist with general living costs.

AU$32,192 (2024 rate) per annum tax-free for full-time students, paid in fortnightly instalments.

AU$16,096 (2024 rate) per annum, taxable, for part-time students, paid in fortnightly instalments.

Three years full-time for a doctoral degree and two years for a research Master’s degree. 

You must be enrolled in an accredited HDR course of study at an Australian Higher Education Provider (HEP) and demonstrate exceptional research potential to undertake an HDR.

You must not receive income from another source to support your general living costs while enrolled in a course of study if that income is greater than 75% of the RTP stipend rate.

Please note: income unrelated to your course of study or income received for your course of study but not for the purpose of supporting general living costs is not considered.

UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA COMMONWEALTH DOCTORAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

The University of Pretoria is a research-intensive university. Hence, it is seeking candidates for doctoral studies who will make significant contributions to its research endeavours. As part of South Africa’s contribution to the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, the University of Pretoria has made funds available for three doctoral scholarships for students coming from Commonwealth Countries (excluding South African students). This scholarship is known as the University of Pretoria Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarship and will be awarded on a competitive basis.

ELIGIBILITY:

The UP Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarship will be awarded to applicants who are citizens of Commonwealth countries, except South Africans.

Applicants must conduct their studies at the University of Pretoria and commence in 2025.

Applicant must have submitted an application to study at UP for the 2025 academic year.

Each Applicant must have identified a potential supervisor.

Each Applicant must have submitted academic records to the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).

Applicants must have completed their postgraduate/Master’s degree no less than two years prior to applying to UP for admission for the 2025 academic year.

Applicants who are older than 40 years of age do not qualify for this scholarship.

PhD and Masters students currently registered or who previously studied at the University of Pretoria are not eligible to apply.

BENEFIT:

The value of this Doctoral Scholarship will be R184 000 p.a.
This amount must be used to cover the following student costs:
Accommodation and living costs.
Fees p.a.
Medical Aid.
Books/Stationery.

Supplementary Funds: The Commonwealth Scholarship holder may hold supplementary external bursaries/grants/scholarships with a maximum total value of awards, including this scholarship, of R300 000.00 p.a. The UP PhD Commonwealth Scholarship must be the primary award.
