GERMAN BUNDESTAG IPS AFRICA SCHOLARSHIP

The German Bundestag invites politically and socially engaged young university graduates from Southern Africa (Botswana, Namibia, South Africa), East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda), and West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal)  to a scholarship program in Berlin in January.

In a four-week compact program, up to 24 scholarship holders from Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda  will get to know German parliamentary democracy and the political decision-making processes in the German Bundestag up close.

ELIGIBILITY:

Nationality of one of the participating countries: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda

younger than 30 years  at the start of the scholarship or on 1 January

completed university studies

Good knowledge of the German language  (at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

strong interest in political issues and social/political  engagement

Your application is only complete if you include the following documents:

Application form   (to be completed and signed in German);

Proof of good knowledge of German , not older than 2 years;

Motivational letter   in German, personally signed (max. 2 pages);

Copy of passport or copy of ID as proof of citizenship of one of the participating countries;

University degree certificate (original or certified copy in English or German);

Letter of recommendation (in German or English) from a teacher/professor or employer assessing the applicant’s professional qualifications for the IPS program.

BENEFIT:

Participants will receive a scholarship of €700. The scholarship also includes free accommodation in a residential complex, travel expenses to and from Berlin, and health, accident, and liability insurance.

THE WE AWARD 2025: TOGETHER AGAINST LONELINESS SCHOLARSHIP TO ATTEND ONE YOUNG WORLD SUMMIT IN MUNICH

By spotlighting their efforts, they hope to inspire others and reaffirm their shared commitment to building a more authentically connected future.

ELIGIBILITY:

Eligible candidates must fit the following: 

Aged at least 18 & aged at least the minimum drinking age in your country of residence.

Nationals of all countries will be eligible to apply for the award.

Demonstrated capacity for leadership.

Showcased tangible impact in one of the three pillar topics:

Promoting social connection and tackling loneliness,

Cultivating positive social environments,

Supporting mental wellbeing.

To be considered for the Award, candidates must be:

Advocating for and implementing solutions that promote social connection, and combat loneliness;

Developing and enhancing social infrastructure (e.g. community spaces, services and networks) in order to encourage social interaction and accessibility;

Actively cultivating positive social environments (e.g. via responsible drinking initiatives),

Or, leading preventive and intervention programs designed to support mental wellbeing within communities.

BENEFIT:

Access to the One Young World Summit 2025 in Munich, Germany.

Hotel accommodation in Munich between 2 – 6 November (inclusive) 2025.

Participation in a pre-event hosted by Pernod Ricard Foundation on 3 November 2025.

The cost of travel to and from Munich (flights in economy)

Catering which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Ground transportation during the Summit via public transport.
