NIKON SMALL WORLD PHOTOMICROGRAPHY COMPETITION

The Nikon Small World Competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. Winners have included both professionals and hobbyists. Application opens 1 September, 2023

ELIGIBILITY:

The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition (the “Competition”) is open only to individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry and have access to a light microscope.

Upload up to three (3) photomicrographic digital images taken by the Entrant (collectively, the “Images”) to the Entry Form.

Images must be submitted in .jpeg, .png, or .tiff format.

Images should be submitted with the highest quality with regard to file size, bit depth, and resolution.

Images do not need to be taken with a Nikon-branded microscope.

BENEFIT:

There will be twenty (20) winners ranked from first (1st) place through twentieth (20th) place, plus Honorable Mention prizes, and prizes for images of distinction if and as determined by the Judges (collectively, the “Prizes”).

First Prize: Three Thousand U.S. Dollars ($3,000.00)

Second Prize: Two Thousand U.S. Dollars ($2,000.00)

Third Prize: One Thousand U.S. Dollars ($1,000.00)

Fourth Prize: Eight Hundred U.S. Dollars ($800.00)

Fifth Prize: Six Hundred U.S. Dollars ($600.00)

Sixth Prize: Four Hundred U.S. Dollars ($400.00)

Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Prizes: Three Hundred U.S. Dollars ($300.00) each.

Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, Fifteenth, Sixteenth, Seventeenth, Eighteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth Prizes: Two Hundred U.S. Dollars ($200.00) each.

Honorable Mentions: One Hundred U.S. Dollars ($100.00) each. The number of Honorable Mention Prizes will be determined by the Judges in their sole discretion.

COMMONWEALTH FOUNDATION SHORT STORY PRIZE

Application Deadline: 1 November, 2023

LOCATION: London, United Kingdom

The 2024 Prize will open for submissions from 1 September 2023 to 1 November 2023. The prize is free to enter and open to any citizen of a Commonwealth country aged 18 and over. It is awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction

ELIGIBILITY:

The prize is open to all Commonwealth citizens aged 18 and over –  please see the full list of Commonwealth countries here.

The story must be between 2,000 and 5,000 words.

The prize is only open to short fiction, but it can be in any fiction genre–science fiction, speculative fiction, historical fiction, crime, romance, literary fiction–and you may write about any subject you wish.

Submissions are accepted in Bengali, Chinese, Creole, English, French, Greek, Malay, Maltese, Portuguese, Samoan, Swahili, Tamil, and Turkish. Stories that have been translated into English from any language are also accepted and the translator of any winning story receives additional prize money.

Your submission must be unpublished in any print or online publication, with the exception of personal websites.

BENEFIT:

The regional winners receive £2,500 and the overall winner receives a total of £5,000.
