UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP (UMGF)

Each year, more than $2 million dollars in university graduate fellowships are offered to full-time master’s and PhD students to recognize and support academic excellence. The fellowships are offered to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment.

ELIGIBILITY:

Students must have a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 to be considered for this award. Please contact your department as they may have a higher GPA requirement.

To hold an award: Have been admitted to a graduate program at the University of Manitoba as a Master’s or Ph.D. student. Pre-master’s and Occasional students are not eligible.

Not have an active, admission‐related hold on their student account during their provisional admission period.

Be registered full‐time in a graduate program of study in the unit that recommends them for a UMGF, if they hold a UMGF award.

Departments/units determine the value and duration of an award and must meet the eligibility criteria as outlined in the eligibility table.

BENEFIT:

UMGF master’s awards are valued at $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, for up to a total of $28,000.

UMGF doctoral awards are valued at $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, for up to a total of $72,000.

ZAYED SUSTAINABILITY PRIZE (UP TO US $5.9 MILLION)

The Zayed Sustainability Prize awards 6 categories to the Global High Schools. Category recognises high schools or secondary schools, from six global geographic regions that propose innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability projects in the areas of health, food, energy and/or water. The proposed project could be in one area (e.g. water) or a combination of areas (e.g. health, food, energy, water and climate action).
The Prize is intended to encourage students to develop and implement their sustainability ideas and is not aimed at administrative projects or educational reforms at the schoo

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for this category, the nominated organisation must be a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) or a non-profit organisation (NPO) for the 6 categories stated above.

Organisations must also demonstrate a clear vision and long-term plan to further deploy their solution and scale up their impact, as well as inspiring others to follow suit by advancing sustainable and human
development.

The application must be submitted by the students and supported by the school management. The projects must:

demonstrate how they meet the three criteria: impact, innovation, and inspiration, as explained in the Evaluation Criteria section of this page;

be able to be implemented and operational within one to two years; and

benefit the school community and/or their local/regional community for several years. One school will win up to US $150,000 in each of the following six global regions: The Americas, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East & North Africa, Europe & Central Asia, South Asia and East Asia & Pacific.
