PHD SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION, FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN

LOCATION: Denmark

The Department of Communication invites applications for three three-year PhD scholarships starting from 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This year, they only accept applications within the following research areas: EducationFilm Studies and Creative Media IndustriesPhilosophyRhetoric; and Subjectivity Research.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s level related to the subject area of the project, e.g. Philosophy, Rhetoric, Film and Media Studies, or Education. If you have completed your education in Denmark, you must have a master’s degree covered by the collective agreement for academics in the state sector.

If you have completed your education outside of Denmark, you must either have a master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years) or, as a minimum, a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree (three years) and be assessed as having professional qualifications at the master’s level.

If you have completed your education outside of Denmark, we will obtain an assessment of your education from the Danish Research Agency.

Applicants must possess skills in written and spoken academic English at a high level.  If deemed necessary, the department may request that applicants document their English skills.

Cover letter (max. 1,200 characters incl. spaces). In the cover letter you must specify the particular research environment with which you would like to be affiliated. However, please do not mention any names of individual researchers—including potential collaborators/supervisors.

Diplomas, transcripts, and a description of the grading scale. Please include the following documents: bachelor’s and master’s degrees—diplomas and transcripts—and a description of the grading scale.  Note: If your degree diploma is not available by the application deadline, please include your latest transcript of grades.

Project abstract (max. 1,200 characters incl. spaces)

Project description (max. 12,000 characters incl. spaces, excluding bibliography).

According to the agreement, the PhD student is required to carry out tasks at the relevant department to an extent corresponding to 840 working hours (6 months).

Salary and Terms of Employment
Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).  The salary range starts at approximately DKK 31,242 (EUR 4,184) + an 18.07% pension contribution.

UNIVERSITY OF GENEVA EXCELLENCE MASTER FELLOWSHIPS

The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva is an internationally recognized leading research institution. The Faculty, with the support of external partners, has established an Excellence Fellowship program open to outstanding and highly motivated students who wish to pursue a Master of Science degree in one of the disciplines covered by the Faculty

ELIGIBILITY:

Candidate selection is based on excellence.

Regardless of your home university, whether you have passed or are doing a brilliant bachelor’s degree, and that you are one of the best in your year, this program is for you! You must meet the admission criteria of the master of your choice3 and be selected on the basis of the application file for an Excellence Fellowship.

For the application to be considered, each student has to fulfill the enrollment procedure as described on the Admissions office website.

If you are a student at the UNIGE: a scan of your UNIGE card

If you are not yet a student at the UNIGE, the mail entitled “UNIGE-Candidature: Dépôt de votre dossier” that you received after registering for the master’s program (proof that you have begun the registration process) is required.

The application (in English or French) must include the following documents in the form of a SINGLE pdf file:

A scan of your national identity card or passport.

A curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum).

The transcript of exams passed during the bachelor’s education, with all grades.

A motivation letter in which you describe your specific scientific interests and your motivation to pursue a Master of Science program at the University of Geneva.

Letters of reference from two professors attesting to your aptitude for this program.

Any other pertinent information, like results of the GRE (General Requirement Examination), the TOEFL, or other language tests.

The application is made online, from the beginning of January of each year. After registering, you will receive an e-mail containing a personal link allowing you to fill out the application form.

The next application deadline is 28 February, 2026 (for masters starting September 14, 2026).

BENEFIT:

The Excellence Fellowship consists of a grant amounting to CHF 10’000 to CHF 15’000/year (no teaching duties); it is awarded for one year and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s program (three or four semesters) provided the applicant is academically successful at the end of his/her first semester of studies.
