2026 HARDIMAN PHD SCHOLARSHIP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GALWAY

The 2026 Hardiman PhD Scholarship applications are now open. The scholarships offer opportunities for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a structured PhD in any of our wide range of programmes.

ELIGIBILITY:

Students starting their PhD on the 1st September 2026. High-achieving individuals, with drive and passion, who have an appetite for the research world and creativity, who thrive on intellectual excitement, and who will positively impact and shape the future for all in our society.  Using your creative energy, your PhD journey at the University of Galway will be alive with possibilities and opportunities.

Successful applicants will be expected to have a first- or upper-second-class honors primary degree or equivalent.

Applicants must read the Applicant’s Guide prior to completing the application form.

Applicants must nominate one supervisor. Click here to find a supervisor. A supervisor form must be submitted by proposed supervisor by 6 February 2026 (17:00 Irish Time)

Submit a complete application by 6 February 2026 (17:00 Irish Time). Applications accepted in English or Irish only.

Two references that indicate your academic suitability & potential to undertake postgraduate research must be received by 6 February 2026 (17:00 Irish Time).
Applications will not be accepted from persons currently registered as PhD students or who previously were awarded a PhD.

BENEFIT:

The Hardiman PhD Scholarships are fully funded for four years, with a stipend of €25,000 p.a. plus tuition fee covered.

UCD SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE PHD SCHOLARSHIP 2026

Application Deadline: 13th February 2026, at 17:00 (Irish Time)

LOCATION: Ireland

The PhD programme offered by the School of Computer Science in UCD is designed to develop your talent and knowledge while you work on a research project under the supervision of academic experts in the field. The programme combines learning, teaching, and research activities to equip you with the right skills to enhance your career prospects in both academia and industry.

ELIGIBILITY:

The minimum requirements to apply are:

A 2.1 grade (or equivalent) in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or a similar technical discipline.

Programming ability.

English test for non-native English speakers, or proof that you carried out your studies through the medium of English within the last two years

Other specific requirements are outlined in the Project Descriptions offered this year

BENEFIT:

The duration of the scholarship is 4 years and includes an annual tax-free stipend of €25,000, research travel expenses of €3,000 to carry out the project, a new laptop, and academic fees.  In addition, all doctoral candidates will do some demonstration and/or teaching assistant hours in the school as part of their career development.

The PhD programme starts in September 2026 if you are offered a scholarship.
