ASHESI-ETH MASTER IN MECHATRONIC ENGINEERING

LOCATION: Multiple Regions

Since January 2022, Ashesi University in Ghana and ETH Zurich have been offering a joint Master’s programme in Mechatronic Engineering. 40 students from 7 African countries are currently studying at Ashesi University. A third cohort has been selected and will start their studies in 2024. The programme is delivered in block courses developed and taught in tandem by faculty from both universities. 

The programme is founded on a strong partnership between Ashesi University, ETH Zurich, industry and supporting partners. This collaboration is maintained through regular visits and exchanges.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants with bachelor or master degree (second class or higher) in mechatronics, mechanical, electrical, computer, allied engineering, or other related degrees will be considered for the programme.

Applicants who have received their bachelor or master degree in the past five years, OR applicants with aforementioned degrees who have also had consistent on-the-job professional development, such as cutting edge training.Find out more information about our entry requirements

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English.

Transcripts or other supporting documents submitted by applicants in a language other than English must be translated and certified as copies of the original document(s).

Students for who English was not a language of instruction must submit evidence of English language proficiency, including but not limited to the following:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Duolingo English Test
Other Tests (Subject to Verification)

Transcripts or other supporting documents submitted by international applicants in a language other than English must be translated and certified as copies of the original document(s).

At least 2 reference(s) should be provided.

Official Transcript: Transcripts should give detailed information of the individual grades received in university-level qualifications to date. Please upload official documents issued by your institution. Transcripts not in English should be accompanied by a certified translation.

CV/Résumé: Please upload a document of one to three pages highlighting your academic achievements and any relevant professional experience.

Motivation: Statements of motivation should explain your motivation for applying for the program, your relevant experience and education, and the specific areas that interest you and/or you intend to specialize in.

References: Please provide contact details of two references, at least one academic, who will support your intellectual ability, academic achievement, motivation and interest in the program and the subject area, and your ability to work effectively in a group and independently.

GLOBAL CITIZEN WAISLITZ AWARD

Celebrating its eleventh year, the Global Citizen Waislitz Awards are annual cash prizes that recognize the excellence of individuals in their work to end extreme poverty. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Entrants aged eighteen (18) years of age or older from anywhere in the world are eligible to apply for the awards.

These awards are for individuals who have demonstrated an impact towards ending extreme poverty over a minimum of 1-2 years.

Applicants must apply for the awards themselves.

Applications are accepted from any individual who is doing impactful work and who has a registered legal entity such as non-profit, for-profit, B-corp, social enterprise, etc.

Evaluation Criteria:

Global Citizenship: How does the applicant embody and exemplify the values and practices of a Global Citizen?

Proof of Concept: Does the applicant have a strong proof of concept with at least 1-2 years of impact towards ending extreme poverty?

Disruption: Has the applicant created measurable impact in an innovative manner that disrupts the systems that allow for extreme poverty to exist?

Scalability: How would this award enable/support the applicant to scale or improve their work?

Adaptability: Can the applicant demonstrate examples of their ability to adapt and evolve to changing conditions?

BENEFIT:

The 2025 Global Citizen Waislitz Awards feature three awards totaling $300,000 USD. They will be profiled in editorial pieces that will be featured on the Global Citizen platform and social media.

Global Citizen Waislitz Prize: $100,000 winner based on all five criteria below

Disruptor Award: $100,000 winner who excels in the “Disruption” criteria

Global Citizens’ Choice Award: $100,000 winner selected with input from online voting from the Global Citizen community
