UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP (SEPTEMBER 2025)

In recognition of the high standard of applications we receive for our degree programmes we are delighted to offer our International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship to international students demonstrating exceptional academic achievement.

ELIGIBILITY:

This scholarship rewards academic achievement, for all international qualifications equivalent to British A-levels.

You must be classified as an international student for fee purposes.

You must be starting a full-time, campus-based undergraduate course*, commencing in September 2025.

The fee discount will be calculated on the basis of the standard tuition fee for each year of your course.

The scholarship will be awarded for a maximum of three years and will not apply for periods of industrial placement or overseas exchange, resit years or if you suspend your studies for any reason.

In accordance with scholarship guidelines, students are allowed to hold only one University of Leicester scholarship. If you are awarded more than one scholarship, you will only receive the higher value award.

If you currently have a conditional offer of a place at the University, you will still need to fulfil any conditions stated on your offer letter.

*Excluding Medicine and LLB Maitrise
**Discretion will be applied where an equivalent level is not practically attainable within the marking scheme of particular international qualifications.

BENEFIT:

This merit-based scholarship, worth £5,000 per year, is offered to international-fee-paying students applying for an undergraduate degree* at the University of Leicester who achieve or exceed the academic grades.

MO IBRAHIM FOUNDATION  PHD SCHOLARSHIP TO AFRICAN NATIONALS

The Centre of African Studies offers one PhD scholarship to African nationals as part of the Governance for Development in Africa Initiative funded by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.

Applications are invited for PhD studentships focused on the area of state capacities, governance and bureaucracy for development.

ELIGIBILITY:

The eligible PhD are only those within the following departments:

Development Studies

Law

Economics

International Relations/Politics

CISD (Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy)

DEFIMS (Department for Financial and Management Studies)

Distance Learning: Centre for Financial and Management Studies (CEFIMS)DEFIMS

Once the place is secured, the applicants can apply for the scholarship. Candidates will be assessed on academic merit by a panel consisting of SOAS academic members. The assessment of your application will be based on the information in your scholarship application.

Please provide the following documents:

A copy of the unconditional offer received from SOAS admissions office.

CV (please include your email address).

Two pages max statement outlining knowledge and interest in governance-related issues.

Your research proposal (as sent to the SOAS Admissions Office).

One academic reference (to be sent directly by referee to ab17@soas.ac.uk).

Please note that CAS reserves the right not to award scholarships and will only award them where there are applicants judged to meet sufficiently high academic standards and with demonstrable interests in fields relevant to the objectives of the GDAI.
