ECU HIGHER DEGREE BY RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships are designed to support postgraduate students of outstanding research promise undertaking a higher degree by research at ECU. The scholarships are offered on the basis of academic merit and research performance. Successful applicants will be awarded either the ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship or the RTP Stipend Scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applies to: Domestic,  International,  Postgraduate Research

These scholarships are open to individuals who are prospective and current ECU students.

In order to apply for these scholarships you must have a PhD, Integrated PhD or Master by Research course offer.

Have been made an offer of a place in an ECU Higher Degree by PhD, Integrated PhD research course or Master by Research

If course admission applications have been submitted prior to the scholarship closing date but not assessed or approved prior to scholarship ranking, applications will be considered but applicants will only be provided a conditional scholarship offer, if successful.

BENEFIT:

These scholarships include tuition fee sponsorship and a stipend of $35,000 per annum paid fortnightly via electronic funds transfer. Other benefits include a relocation allowance for domestic students (where applicable) and partial reimbursement of Overseas Student Health Cover for International students (where applicable). The duration of the scholarship is up to 3 years full-time for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and up to 2 years full-time for a Master by Research.

 Forrest Research Foundation PhD Curtin enrolled Scholarship applicants must:

Have applied for admission in a PhD and commence enrolment in 2026 as an internal student based at a Curtin’s Western Australian Bentley campus;
not have been enrolled in the proposed PhD or previously undertaken research towards a PhD or other research doctorate;
Have a bachelor’s degree of First Class Honours standard or equivalent;
Be intending to reside at Forrest Hall. (Exemptions to this residency requirement may be considered by the Governors of the Forrest Research Foundation); and
Be eligible to enrol full-time at Curtin university by the date of commencement of the scholarship.

BENEFIT:

The 2026 Curtin University enrolled Scholarship opportunity includes:

Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend scholarship or equivalent university research scholarship valued $38,440 per annum and indexed annually

Accommodation allowance valued at $25,740 in 2026 and subject to annual indexation. The allowance is available to cover accommodation costs of a studio apartment at Forrest Hall.

A one-off research and travel allowance of up to $12,000, plus a relocation allowance allowing for economy airfare to Perth for eligible Forrest Scholar and immediate dependants.
