CMU AFRICA/MINDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

LOCATION: Rwanda

The Scholarship Programme enables African students to study in Carnegie Mellon University Africa, an African institution in a country other than their home country, and immerse themselves in the richness and diversity that the country and its communities have to offer.

ELIGIBILITY:

MINDS Scholarships are awarded to meritorious applicants following a rigorous selection process.  To be considered for a MINDS Scholarship, you must:

Be a national of an African country, residing in any African country

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution(s) outside of your country of citizenship and/ or residency

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution(s) to pursue postgraduate studies within the following year

Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/course in the last two completed years of study

Produce evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential guided by the questions/requirements set out in the application form

Submit a complete online application form (see below) with the required supporting documentation.

MINDS is currently receiving applications from students who commence their studies in the coming academic year. Interested individuals are invited to submit applications as soon as they receive official acceptance from a MINDS preferred university at which they wish to study. Applications will be processed in the order they are received.

Individuals with a Pan-African outlook, demonstrated leadership ability and an excellent academic record who wish to study on the African continent, outside their home country, are invited to apply for the scholarships.

The Scholarship will cover some or all of the expenses below, depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded:

One return ticket per duration of studies

A fixed stipend.

UNIVERSITY OF GLOBAL HEALTH EQUITY/MASTERCARD FOUNDATION MASTER OF SCIENCE IN HEALTH PROFESSIONS EDUCATION PROGRAM (MSC-HPE)

The Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc in HPE) is a program that prepares health educators and leaders to design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, innovative, and equitable health professions programs across Africa. This program description pertains specifically to the pathway fully funded by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, and the application process on this page is intended for prospective candidates seeking this scholarship.  

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be 35 or under the year at the time of application (exceptions apply to applicants with disabilities). 

Applicants must be residents and citizens or hold refugee status in an African country. 

Applicants should have matriculated and successfully graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field. Official academic transcript(s) and degree certificate should be attached as proof of completion. 

Experience: Professional experience in teaching, supervision, or educational leadership within health-related higher education institutions (or clear evidence of teaching potential for early-career applicants) is preferable. 

Institutional endorsement: A signed and stamped recommendation letter confirming institutional support and dedicated time to attend online and in-person sessions is required from any applicant who is currently employed. 

A candidate who already holds a master’s degree is not eligible to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. 

Applying directly to the full MSc-HPE track through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program:

You are expected to commit to the entire 18-month program and are not eligible to exit at postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma levels. 

The only available exit award is the MSc in HPE upon successful program completion.
