CURTIN UNIVERSITY HDR SCHOLARSHIP – WASM: MINERALS ENERGY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING – MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT FOR RECHARGEABLE PROTON BATTERIES

This scholarship is funded by an ARC DECRA project in conjunction with support from Curtin University. The purpose of this scholarship is to support a PhD student in researching proton batteries. Proton battery is a low-cost and safe alternative to lithium-ion battery. The PhD research will address challenges in proton battery research and improve energy density, fast charging and discharging capability, stability and low-temperature performance.

Any HDR student wishing to study in chemical engineering.

The successful candidate must meet the minimum academic entry requirement for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy program https://research.curtin.edu.au/postgraduate/ including the English proficiency levels set by Curtin University (e.g., IELTS, Overall 6.5, Speaking 6.0, Writing 6.0, Reading 6.0 and Listening 6.0). https://www.curtin.edu.au/study/offering/course-research-doctor-of-philosophy—chemical-engineering–dr-chengr/ 

Candidates should have a master’s or bachelor’s (Honors) degree in Engineering (e.g., Chemical, Materials, Environmental, Resources) or Chemistry (e.g., Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Electrochemistry) or an equivalent degree. Students with previous research experience and publications in materials science, materials engineering, chemical engineering, electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, etc., are encouraged to apply.

Recipients must complete their milestone 1 within 6 months of enrollment and remain enrolled on a full-time basis for the duration of the scholarship.

BENEFIT:

This scholarship provides a living stipend of $37,500 p.a. pro rata indexed, based on full-time studies. The duration of the award shall be three years with a possible extension of up to six months (maximum), assessed on a case-by-case basis. In addition, this scholarship will include a tuition fee offset support for a successful international candidate upon the approval of Curtin University.

This scholarship is open to applicants who will meet all the following criteria:

Citizenship: all students considered international for fee purposes

Faculties: Education and Arts, Law and Business, Health Science, Theology and Philosophy

Course: Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Philosophy

Recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship in conjunction with any other ACU scholarship or award.

Eligible candidates must propose a research project that aligns with the University’s strategic research priorities and/or its established or emerging areas of research strength.

A limited number of scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding applicants, with recipients receiving a comprehensive scholarship package to support them in their studies.

BENEFIT:

Successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship package consisting of:

Stipend valued at AUD $33,511 per annum (full-time) to support living expenses, paid as a fortnight stipend for up to 3.5 years

Tuition fee scholarship for up to 3.5 years

RTP Allowance (Overseas Student Health Care Policy) Scholarship to cover the cost of one single Overseas Student Health Care Policy; and

RTP Allowance (Relocation) valued up to AUD $2,000 to support the costs of an overseas candidate’s relocation to Australia for the purposes of commencing a Research Doctorate degree at ACU.
