GENEVA GRADUATE INSTITUTE GLOBAL CHALLENGE

Eager to stimulate reflection and innovation on development issues from diverse disciplinary and contextual perspectives and with the generous support of Ambassador Jenö Staehelin, the Graduate Institute launched the Advancing Development Goals Contest, an international competition for Master students.

The idea is to gather contributions that are both theoretically grounded and offer pragmatic solutions to a relevant international development problem stemming from an interdisciplinary collaboration between three to five enrolled master students from anywhere in the world.

ELIGIBILITY:

Five prizes will be distributed; one in each of the following categories (based on the UN Statistics list):

Universities located in Africa

Universities located in Asia

Universities located in Europe

Universities located in North America and Oceania

Universities located in Latin America

The confirmation documents (enrolment certificates or student cards) should contain your name, your graduate programme and a recent issuance date.

In case you do not have these documents at the time of your registration, please send them via email to geneva.challenge@graduateinstitute.ch.

Following the registration, you have eleven weeks to prepare you proposal, which is due by the submission deadline.

Please make sure that you submit a proof of enrolment as a Master’s student for each team member (the document should contain your name, your graduate programme, and a recent issuance date) when you submit the form. However, you can also send the proof to geneva.challenge@graduateinstitute.ch before the deadline on 30 April 2025 at 23:59 CET.

Following the registration, you have eleven weeks to prepare your proposal, which is to be submitted as a PDF through a form, which will be made available upon registration. You will find more information on the format of the submission in the rules and regulations of the contest on the website.

BENEFIT:

The ADG contest distributes 25,000 CHF in monetary prizes. The winning project will be awarded CHF 10,000; the two teams in second place will receive CHF 5,000 each and the two teams in third place, CHF 2,500 each.

TEJUMOLA OLANIYAN CREATIVE WRITERS-IN-RESIDENCE FELLOWSHIP

The Africa Institute, Global Studies University invites applications for the Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship, a distinguished program that celebrates and supports literary voices engaged in the creative expression of Africa and its diaspora in all forms and genres.

ELIGIBILITY:

The fellowship is open to both emerging and well-established creative writers.

A strong record of creative literary excellence, including awards, fellowships, or other forms of recognition.

Applicants must be actively working on a major literary project (a novel, memoir, collection of essays or poetry, film script, or a full-length play).

Applicants must have at least one published work (book, journal, or significant online platform) or a substantial portfolio demonstrating their commitment to writing.

Applicants working on themes related to Africa and the African diaspora are strongly encouraged to apply.

Priority will be given to applicants who employ innovative approaches to storytelling, form, or language are given priority.

Priority will be given to applicants whose work shows potential to contribute to critical literary culture, scholarship, or public discourse are given preference.

Application Requirement: CV/résumé of the applicant

A two-page summary (single space, font 12) of the project to be undertaken during the residency period, its significance, and a proposed date of completion.

One sample of published or unpublished writings and/or creative work to be evaluated.

BENEFIT:

The residency program welcomes applications from creative writers, including novelists, short story writers, playwrights, poets, and scriptwriters whose work relates to Africa and the African diaspora for a grant of 50,000 AED in total for the duration of the fellowship, which is inclusive of accommodation, a return airfare ticket, visa and the monthly stipend of 10,000 AED per month per fellow.
