HERTIE SCHOOL DOCTORAL PROGRAMME IN GOVERNANCE, BERLIN

The Hertie School is part of a vibrant research hub in the heart of Berlin and closely cooperates with leading doctoral programmes in the social sciences in Europe. Each year they offer eight competitive PhD stipends to outstanding PhD candidates. They are interested in applicants with an exceptionally strong master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, law, political science, sociology, public administration, management, and data science or related fields. The master’s degree should be completed before you enter the programme. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Programmes are targeted at PhD candidates with a masters degree and a strong foundation in economics, law, political science, sociology, public administration, management or related fields. Admission to our PhD programmes are competitive and each application will be evaluated along academic criteria by our central admission committee. In addition, it is necessary that a dissertation can be supervsied at the school by one of our faculty members.

You can apply while your master’s programme is still ongoing. Please submit all transcripts and certificates you have acquired by the time of your application. The final master’s degree transcript and certificate must be submitted at the latest upon matriculation (i.e., by 1 August).

If you receive a scholarship from the Hertie School, employment is limited to 10 hours a week. Furthermore, there is a salary limit. Candidates with part-time positions (limited to 20h/week max.) at the Hertie School may adjust their PhD study plan in accordance with their professional obligations. The respective arrangements must be agreed upon with the PhD Board.

BENEFIT:

The Hertie School does not charge tuition fees for its doctoral programmes. Each year we offer eight competitive three-year stipends of 1450 euros per month plus a monthly health insurance contribution of up to 200 euros.

TU DELFT SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA PLANNING AND DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP

The Department of Urbanism of the TU Delft provides two full scholarship to students from Sub-Saharan Africa aged between 22 and 28 to participate in the Summer School.

ELIGIBILITY:

This scholarship is only available to students from Sub-Saharan Africa We strongly encourage female students to apply . (Please read our “diversity and opportunity” policy HERE).

Selected students are expected to act as ambassadors for TU Delft, the Department of Urbanism and the Delft Global Initiative and will help promote our learning philosophy and values.

BENEFIT:

The scholarships cover travel costs, accommodation and daily costs during the Summer School (meals and transportation).
