UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO RICHARD AND DIANA SOMERVILLE COMMERCE ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Established in 2022 from a generous gifting of funds from Richard and Diana Somerville, this Scholarship supports students who face significant financial and life challenges in attending university to pursue a degree in commerce at the University of Otago.

ELIGIBILITY:

Application for all Entrance Scholarships is normally open to students who meet the requirements of:

 Are a New Zealand citizen or a New Zealand Residence Class Visa Holder;

International students who have completed Year 12 and/or have completed or are in the process of completing Year 13 at a New Zealand school, or an equivalent foundation level course at a New Zealand tertiary institution.

Are intending to enrol or have enrolled for the first time for first-year (100-level papers), full-time degree-level, undergraduate study at the University of Otago.

In addition to the above eligibility criteria, applicants must:

Be intending to enrol in their first year of a programme of study for one of the following degrees at the University of Otago:

Bachelor of Commerce

Bachelor of Arts and Commerce

Bachelor of Commerce and Science

Bachelor of Entrepreneurship

All applications for Entrance Scholarships are done through eVision, the University’s student management system. In order to apply for a scholarship, you will be required to go through the first stages of enrolment at the University of Otago to access the Entrance Scholarship online application.

In the Entrance Scholarship application, it is recommended that to be considered for this scholarship, you should have completed the Financial and/or Family Circumstances sections. BENEFIT:

The following information applies to this scholarship, subject to the specific provisions of the offer letter for the recipient:

Standard value of NZ$14,000.

Standard tenure is one year.

For those accepting a place in a Residential College as listed at the link below, it will be paid as an accommodation fee waiver of $14,000, paid directly to your Residential College (the scholarship is not able to be used for payment or part-payment of Residential College placement, deposit, activity or equivalent fees due prior to studying).

HELMUT-SCHMIDT-PROGRAMME (MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PUBLIC POLICY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE – PPGG) • DAAD

Application Deadline: 1 June until 31 July 2024.

LOCATION: Germany

With the Helmut-Schmidt-Programme, the DAAD strives to contribute to promoting good governance and civil society structures in developing and emerging countries.

The Programme:

offers future leaders master’s courses in disciplines that are of special relevance for social, political, and economic development

prepares students in a practice-oriented course for responsible positions in or for their home regions and contributes to establishing economic and social institutions that are democratically oriented and designed to overcome social inequalities

ELIGIBILITY:

Graduates from developing and emerging countries (bachelor or equivalent)

with a well-qualified first university degree and above-average grades (upper third) in Social and Political Sciences, Law, Economics, Public Policy and Administration

willing to actively contribute to the social, political and economic development of their home countries/regions

who have already gained practical experience relevant for the programme (professional experience, internships, political/social commitment)

BENEFIT:

The scholarship holders will receive:

scholarships (of currently € 934 per month) for master’s courses at German higher education institutions

health insurance cover in Germany

appropriate travel allowances for travel between Germany and the respective developing and emerging countries

a study and research grant

rent subsidies and family supplements, as applicable

preceding German language course in Germany, lasting up to 4 months; participation is mandatory

The following deviation regarding funding benefits applies for the “Social Protection” master’s course due to its blended learning concept: A sur place rate of € 500 per month is paid in the 4 th semester (mandatory online semester in the student’s country of origin or another developing/emerging country).
