UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA JANET CRETAN ELITE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

The University of Tasmania is pleased to offer the Janet Cretan Elite Research Scholarship to exceptional PhD applicants wishing to further their research at the institution. Janet has generously agreed to endow a perpetual scholarship for a PhD student researching in the fields of philosophy and sociology.

ELIGIBILITY:

The following eligibility criteria apply to this scholarship:

An applicant applying for PhD and a base living allowance stipend at the University rate, or a current PhD candidate who has been offered or awarded a base stipend at the University rate: and,

An applicant applying for a PhD, or a current candidate who has been offered or has commenced a PhD, in an area identified as a research strength in the disciplines of Philosophy or Sociology

Applicants who wish to apply for the Scholarship, in addition to a PhD and a base living allowance stipend, should visit the University of Tasmania’s Apply Now website and complete an application. At the end of the application, within the Comment field, please advise that you are also applying for the Janet Cretan Elite Research Scholarship.

For current PhD candidates at the University of Tasmania, who have been offered or awarded a living allowance base stipend, please complete and submit the Donor-Funded Scholarship Application form for Current Candidate (Word 74KB) to GraduateResearch.Scholarships@utas.edu.au.

All applications that meet the eligibility criteria will automatically be considered for the scholarship.

BENEFIT:

This scholarship is a top-up scholarship that provides $7,500 for 3.5 years.

SCHWARZMAN SCHOLARS PROGRAM IN CHINA

scholarsSchwarzman Scholars are selected from an international pool of distinguished candidates. Prospective Scholars are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional results in their field, and outstanding leadership qualities.

ELIGIBILITY:

In addition to demonstrating extraordinary leadership skills, the ability to anticipate and act on trends and changes in their context, strong intellectual capacity, and exemplary character, candidates must meet the following criteria.

Must have an undergraduate degree

Must be 18-28 years of age: Candidates must be at least 18 but not yet 29 years of age as of August 1 of their Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year (for the Class of 2025-2026, as of August 1, 2025).

Must be proficient in the English language
