UEA UNIVERSITY OF SANCTUARY INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

The University of East Anglia is committed to helping reduce the barriers to participation in Higher Education (HE) faced by those seeking sanctuary in the UK. Please note that for the academic year of 2026/7, the sanctuary scholarship will be for master’s level only. They welcome applications to these scholarships from anyone who is seeking sanctuary in the United Kingdom.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

Have applied for a place at UEA for a full-time postgraduate taught master’s course and have met the offer conditions.

Provide evidence of their background of seeking sanctuary in the UK. They should hold one of the residence statuses discussed on the program website or another immigration status that clearly relates to their status of seeking sanctuary. They will need to provide evidence of their background of seeking sanctuary, such as a Bail 201 letter detailing any restrictions.

Do not apply for the MB/BS course at the Norwich Medical School. 

If the applicant is applying for any UEA course that includes a placement component, they need to ensure that their immigration status will allow them to undertake placements.

Declare all previous studies completed in a higher education setting. 

English Language Requirements and Support: All applicants to the University of East Anglia will be asked to demonstrate an acceptable level of English language before they can be admitted onto any course or programme. The University of East Anglia accepts a selection of English language tests, including Duolingo. The Duolingo English language test is an online test that can be taken anytime, anywhere. The test is one hour long, and the results take two days to be processed.

​Duolingo English Test Access Programme: As a University of Sanctuary, we are delighted to be taking part in the Duolingo English Test Access Programme which offers a set number of free English language test places for students from a forced migration background. AGRTP INTERNATIONAL FULL-TIME SCHOLARSHIP

AGRTP International Scholarships are awarded to postgraduate researchers from overseas* with exceptional promise on the basis of academic merit and research potential. ELIGIBILITY:

AGRTP International Scholarships are generally for full-time study towards higher degrees by research. These scholarships are highly competitive, and only applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria will be considered:

Commencing a Charles Sturt University HDR program or currently enrolled

Enrolling/enrolled as a full-time candidate who will be studying on a Charles Sturt University campus

AGRTP International Scholarships will not be available to those who:

Are enrolled concurrently in any other program unless it is essential to the success of the HDR or exceptional circumstances exist and are approved.

Are receiving another Commonwealth-funded postgraduate research scholarship

AGRTP International Scholarships are normally tenable for three years for Research Doctorate studies and two years for Research Masters studies, subject to satisfactory progress

An extension of up to six months may be granted for Research Doctorate candidates where CSU is satisfied the extension is based on grounds that are beyond the control of the candidate and relate to their research studies rather than of a personal nature.

Scholarship candidates are entitled to 20 paid annual leave working days per year and 10 paid sick leave days per year and may be eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid primary caregiver parental leave with the duration of the scholarship.

BENEFIT:

Stipend Full-Time: $35,000 annually (2024 rate), payable in fortnightly installments to a nominated Australian bank account.

A PhD/Research Tuition Fees: Scholarship candidates are exempt from fees for a period equivalent to three years (six sessions) for a PhD/Research Doctorate OR two years (four sessions) for Research Master’s at full-time study.

Operating Funds: Scholarship candidates are allocated an allowance to assist with the reimbursement of costs associated with a candidate’s research.

Relocation Allowance: Scholarship candidates may be eligible to receive a relocation allowance for the cost of relocating themselves, their spouse, and dependents to a Charles Sturt campus, to a maximum of AUD $5,000.
