FULLY FUNDED ITU160 GENDER CHAMPIONS

Are you a young woman doing impactful work related to digital transformation and development? Apply now to become an ITU160 Gender Champion and be part of a global movement for gender equality in digital transformation!

Through the ITU160 Gender Champions initiative, on the occasion ITU’s 160th Anniversary, the Government of Canada is partnering with ITU to bring to Geneva nine young women (ages 18–25) working in digital development and digital transformation worldwide. 

ELIGIBILITY:

ITU160 Gender Champions initiative is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (“ITU” organizer) and the support Government of Canada. By submitting your application form for participation in this initiative, you accept the present terms and conditions.

You hereby warrant that all information submitted is true, complete, and up-to-date. You represent that you are at least 18 years of age and maximum 25 years of age at the time of submitting your application form for participation in the initiative.

You represent that you are not related to any of the members of the initiative’s selection committee, and that neither you nor any members of your family (up to the third degree) are employed by the organizer. The organizer reserves the right to verify your eligibility for participation in the initiative as well as the accuracy of your submitted information.

The organizer reserves the right to in its sole discretion to disqualify you if it reasonably considers that the information you have provided and/or your submissions do not comply with the terms, instructions and guidelines provided in the initiative website the application form, as well as the present terms and conditions. By way of example, submissions which are not in English or which the organizer deem to be off topic or otherwise not in accordance with the nature of the initiative or the mission of the co-organizers are subject to disqualification.

BENEFIT:

The nine ITU160 Gender Champions will be required to attend the WSIS+20 High Level Event and 2025 AI for Good Summit from 07 to 11 July 2025. In this context, the organizer will provide the nine Champions with (i) a round-trip economy flight ticket to/from the location, (ii) health and accident insurance coverage, and (iii) accommodation and per diem subsistence allowance for the duration of the stay in Geneva.

NYU STERN CLIMATE ECONOMICS JOURNALISM FELLOWS

The NYU Stern Climate Economics Journalism Fellowship will bring a group of journalists to NYU Stern’s Greenwich Village campus to learn from globally recognized experts in the emerging field of climate economics. Participants will discuss the fundamental factors and latest trends in climate economics and finance.

The next cohort of the Fellowship will meet in New York City on September 18 and 19, 2025.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applications are open to and welcome from all journalists (both reporters and editors, and including freelancers) interested in covering the interface between climate and the economy. While aspects of the course have a focus on U.S. policies and institutions, we also welcome applications from journalists based outside the United States.

NYU Stern will select the final group of Fellows based on the documents submitted by applicants including the letter of motivation.

The sessions cover the fundamental economics and latest trends in climate economics. Prior training in economics is not required. Topics include:

Emerging Regulatory and Legislative Trends in Climate Finance and Economics

Within these topics, we will consider urgent questions such as: Why are home insurance markets breaking down across the U.S.? What’s a carbon border adjustment mechanism and how might it affect global trade? How do cap-and-trade systems work? How do you calculate the Social Cost of Carbon, and why does it matter? What are the problems with carbon offsets, and how might they be solved? What are the economic and financial market effects of nature and biodiversity loss? How do the economics of renewable energy markets work?

Dan Fagin will lead a discussion of the challenges of reporting on the interactions between climate change and the economy.

There will be social events to allow for plenty of opportunities to get to know the other fellows and faculty in an informal setting.

BENEFIT:

The Fellowship is fully funded by NYU Stern, and there is no corporate or advocacy-group sponsorship:

All the costs of operating the program including all meals will be borne by NYU Stern. In addition, Fellows admitted to the program who reside outside the New York Metro Area will receive a $2,000 stipend to cover travel and accommodation costs; those residing inside the New York Metro Area will receive a  $1,000 stipend.
