FREE PRESS AWARDS

Free Press Unlimited wants to honor journalists who risk everything to bring us the news, media pioneers who pave the way for equality and justice and those who persevere under the most difficult circumstances. The Free Press Awards will recognise exceptional work in the categories Newcomer of the Year and Most Resilient Journalist.

The nominations for the Free Press Awards of 2024 are open! You can now nominate a journalist for the Most Resilient Journalists Award or the Newcomer of the Year Award. The deadline for nominations is 12 August 2024. The nominees will be announced in September 2024.

ELIGIBILITY:

Nominations for the awards will be judged by an independent panel of international experts. Please note the following when nominating:

You can not nominate yourself;

When you nominate someone, make sure this person is aware and gives permission;

Make sure you have sufficient examples of work to upload with the nomination, preferably a minimum of three pieces;

To be eligible for the category of Newcomer of the Year, the nominee should be active as a journalist for a maximum of three years.

BENEFIT:

The winner in the category ‘Newcomer of the Year’ will receive a media scholarship by choice. The winner in the category ‘Most Resilient Journalist’ will receive a cash prize. Read more about the categories Newcomer of the Year and Most Resilient Journalist.

YOUTH-LED SOLUTIONS FOR THE EU YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FUND THROUGH THE GLOBAL YOUTH MOBILIZATION OPEN CALL

LOCATION: Switzerland

The European Union, in partnership with the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM), an initiative of the world’s largest youth organisations—the “Big Six”— is launching the OPEN CALL for applications to the EU YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FUND THROUGH THE GLOBAL YOUTH MOBILIZATION open until July 21. This call aims to fund innovative local ideas from young people that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their communities.

ELIGIBILITY:

Young people aged 14 to 30 from the List of eligible countries for Official Development Assistance *

Young individuals, Informal groups and Registered youth-led organisations

Projects addressing global challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Projects by or for underrepresented young people and groups, including young people in challenging circumstances, those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and individuals facing barriers related to gender or disability

Projects addressing climate change and environmental sustainability

Applications are open from June 27 until July 21, and young people from eligible countries are encouraged to apply. The application process is straightforward and accessible, with forms available online and in multiple languages.

BENEFIT:

Individual young people and informal groups can receive funding ranging from 500 to 1500 EUR,

Registered youth organisations are eligible to receive between 3000 and 5000 EUR.
