UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS

The University of East London recognizes that people seeking asylum in the UK are likely to be some of the most vulnerable in our society. The university is working with the Helena Kennedy Foundation to support such people accessing higher education.

ELIGIBILITY:

Please ensure that you meet all of the following eligibility criteria before making an application:

You must be:

An asylum seeker or the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker;

OR

An asylum seeker/partner/dependent who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status as a result of an asylum claim.

AND

Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a taught postgraduate course at UEL for 2026/27 entry

Unable to access mainstream student funding

Not require additional support for living costs

Provide documentation from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to confirm your immigration status and give UEL consent to check this with our Premium Account Manager at UKVI.

Before starting your application, you must make an application to start an eligible course at UEL. Once you have applied, you will be given a unique Student ID number, which you will need in order to submit a scholarship application.  

If you are already enrolled on a programme at UEL, you will not be eligible to apply for a scholarship towards that same programme.

Scholarship applications for the academic year 2026/27 are now open! The final deadline to submit your application is Sunday, 2 August 2026, 23:55pm.

 Late applications will not be accepte; therefore,e please make sure you submit your application prior to the deadline.

BENEFIT:

Successful applicants will be awarded 100% tuition fee support until they are awarded such immigration status that enables them to access support from Student Finance.

MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT MCGILL UNIVERSITY

Application Opens: August 3, 2026 (9:00 a.m. EST); Deadline: August 21, 2026 (4:00 p.m. EST)

Apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University. The scholarship program aims to bring together gifted leaders and changemakers from across Africa at the master’s level who aspire to improve and transform nutrition, public health, public policy, and sustainable agriculture across the African continent.

ELIGIBILITY:

Prospective applicants must qualify academically for admission to McGill University and meet the following minimum criteria: 

Be admissible to one of the eligible programs at McGill University. 

Have NEVER registered for, nor completed a master’s degree. 

Be a citizen of and live in an African country (view eligible countries). 

Have a valid passport and be admissible to Canada as an International Student (requiring a Study Permit).  Those with dual citizenship, asylee, refugee, or permanent resident status in the US, Canada, UK or EU are not eligible. 

Have an exceptional record of service, leadership, and activity in your school and/or community. 

Demonstrate a desire to give back to your home community.

Demonstrate that financial constraints have prevented or restricted your educational opportunities.

Be 35 years or younger at the time of application.

Priority will be given to: 

Women;

People affected by forced displacement (asylum seekers, internally displaced people, refugees and returnees, etc.); 

People living with a disability; 

Applicants with First Class Honors or an equivalent have a stronger chance of admission to McGill University. 

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University will be hosting multiple virtual information sessions ahead of the start of the application cycle. Attending one of these sessions is a mandatory step in the application process. Only eligible candidates who attend an information session will receive access to the application form link.
