BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM FONDS (BIF)  PHD FELLOWSHIP

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards PhD fellowships of 2 to 3.5 years to outstanding junior scientists worldwide who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory.

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all nationals

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards PhD fellowships to European citizens working in Europe or overseas and to non-European citizens pursuing their PhD projects in Europe *.

The PhD projects must be experimental, in the field of basic biomedical research, and aimed at elucidating basic biological phenomena of human life and acquiring new scientific knowledge.

The application must be written in English by the applicants themselves. There are three deadlines each year:

1 February, 1 June, 1 October.

BENEFIT:

On top of the monthly stipend, we offer our fellows seminars, travel allowances, individual and personal support, and a worldwide network of fellows and alumni.

HUMBOLDT RESEARCH TRACK SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION: Germany

The Humboldt Research Track funding line is designed to support outstanding Master’s students from Humboldt-Universität who plan to pursue a doctorate. Graduates from other universities may also be funded if they pursue a doctorate at Humboldt-Universität. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Outstanding Master’s students as well as graduates who plan to pursue their doctorate at Humboldt-Universität or – if graduated from Humboldt-Universität – at another university in Germany or abroad. To enable more prospective doctoral candidates with disabilities or chronic illnesses to prepare for a doctorate, applications from this target group will be given particular consideration.

Excellent academic results or an excellent degree and an original, high-quality proposal of the doctoral project.

Please note: If the Master’s degree (or equivalent) wasn’t obtainedwithin the last six months prior to the date of application, you need to give reasons why you still qualify for a start-up funding!
You need to find a professor from Humboldt-Universität who agrees to write an expert review for you and to act as your mentor during the funding period before you submit your application!

BENEFIT:

Funding of 800 EUR per month is awarded for up to six months. Scholarship holders with children receive an additional 400 EUR a month for the first child, plus 100 EUR for each additional child. In exceptional cases, funding can be extended for up to an additional six months
