IPHYC INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS COMPETITION

To participate in the International Physics Competition (IPhyC) 2026, solve the Qualification Round problems and submit your solution online: Submission Form 

ELIGIBILITY:

Each one of the five problems gives up to 5 points. To qualify for the Semi-Final Round in December 2026, you have to score at least 15, 17, or 20 points based on your age group . The submission deadline of the IPhyC 2026 Qualification Round is Sunday, 1 November 2026, 23:59 UTC+0

Application Requirements

You have to be at least 14 years old, interested in physics, and willing to spend time encouraging students to engage with physics and IPhyC. Basic English proficiency is required to communicate with the international IPhyC team.

All current high school and university students are allowed to participate. However, there are different age groups: Age Groups

you have to be a student in a high school or a university to participate. If you are currently between high school and university (e.g., gap year) and plan to start university any time soon, you are also eligible to participate.

Application Process

The application for becoming a representative consists of two stages:

1st Stage:
You will complete the official representative application form by providing your personal details and submitting the following documents: a letter of motivation, your CV, academic transcript, and any optional certificates. Once we receive your application, our team will review your materials and typically contact you.

2nd Stage:
Successful candidates will be invited to the second stage, where you will be asked to submit additional materials. These include a personal introduction video and your solutions to a short set of physics problems designed specifically for you. We will inform you of the final decision usually within one week.

BENEFIT:

Awards & Prizes: Total of 1500 USD

Participating allows you to apply your physics skills to interesting problems and to learn about topics beyond the school curriculum. All participants receive participation certificates. The top performers receive the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes with cash prizes worth over 1500 USD. There are also national awards for the best participants from each country. More About Awards and Prizes

FRANCIS CRICK INSTITUTE FUTURE LEADERS IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIPS

The Crick Future Leaders in Biomedical Sciences scholarships are aimed at students of Black or mixed Black heritage with backgrounds in biological or biomedical sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, or computer science who wish to undertake a PhD in biological or biomedical sciences.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Future Leaders in Biomedical Sciences scholarships are open to candidates of all nationalities who are from a Black heritage background, including a mixed background, for example: Black African, Black Caribbean, Black Other, Mixed background (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or other Black backgrounds).

Candidates who are not from a Black heritage background should apply to the Crick PhD programme via our 2027 PhD student recruitment programme.

In addition, the standard Crick academic eligibility criteria apply:

A first/upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent from a non-UK university) in a relevant subject.

Appropriate research experience as part of, or outside of, a university degree course, or a master’s degree in a relevant subject.

English skills

Applicants do not need to submit information relating to English language skills during the application process. If you are offered a Crick PhD studentship we will provide you with information on our English language requirements.

As part of your application, you will be asked to identify up to three participating Group Leaders that you are interested in being matched with if you are invited to interview. If you are awarded the scholarship, it is the Group Leader that you are finally matched with that will be your PhD supervisor.

Your application must be submitted by the deadline: 12:00 midday GMT, Tuesday 3 November 2026.

They will not accept late applications. 

They should receive your references by 12:00 midday GMT, Tuesday 10 November 2026.

BENEFIT:

They offer successful applicants a place on the Crick PhD programme, and a PhD studentship that covers the following:

£27,715 tax-free student stipend (living allowance) per year for four years

Tuition fees

If applicable, reimbursement of the student visa application fee and immigration health surcharge

In addition to the training, support, and guidance provided via the PhD Programme, the Future Leaders in Biomedical Sciences scholarship recipients will also be provided with additional mentoring and networking opportunities.
