CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR FULL UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS UNDER MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF RWANDA

LOCATION: Rwanda

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda is committed to developing Africa’s next generation of transformative leaders and aims to drive and support transformation at three levels: individual (Scholars), institutional (the University), and system (higher education ecosystem and beyond). The initiative specifically focuses on females pursuing Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); young people with disabilities; refugees; and displaced youth.

ELIGIBILITY:

Be a citizen of Rwanda to benefit from the national scholarship quota.

Be a citizen of any African country, a refugee, or a displaced youth in Africa.

Academically qualified, with limited access to opportunities.

Not above 28 years at the time of application, and not above 30 years for those with certified proof of protracted life conditions (refugees, single mothers, in child-headed families, etc.).

Meeting admission criteria to eligible programs at the University of Rwanda.

Must have generated a UR Reference number and have submitted an application for admission to UR in one of the earmarked programs (refer to the list of Eligible Programs in section 2 above).

Must demonstrate commitment to leadership and proof of community engagement (give back) and/or transformation initiatives.

Refugees and those with disabilities are expected to provide legal proof of their status (From UNHCR or NCPD respectively, or any other duly recognized organization).

This scholarship opportunity is open to African students of all races, colors, or descent with limited access to opportunities.

The applicants will have to be admitted into one of the above eligible programs at the University of Rwanda (Section 2 above—eligible programs).

Selected applicants with other scholarships of any kind must be willing to discontinue other scholarships.

Anyone with a double scholarship will automatically be discontinued once found. Continuing students are not eligible.

BENEFIT:

This is a comprehensive scholarship that will be managed by the University of Rwanda.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda also offers an opportunity for the scholars to receive holistic training that empowers them and leads them to academic success, community engagement, and transition to employment opportunities, which will equip the scholars to be global citizens.

The scholarship will cover: Comprehensive financial support (full tuition fees, fully paid on-campus accommodation, a laptop, learning materials, an annual return ticket allowance, and a full-year monthly stipend). Psycho-social Support Services.

Uniquely sourced internships with industry for professional development.

Continued academic support through academic mentorship, virtual learning, and tutoring.

Career Development Services (including Industrial Mentorship, Career Guidance, Professional Development, and Enterprise Development, among others)

Regular group meetings with other scholars that focus on personal and professional development opportunities and activities tailored to build societal relationships and scholars’ capacity.

Opportunities to participate in leadership congresses, community services and mentoring (Goback Give-Back),

UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY LAW SCHOOL WA COOKE, JANE COOKE AND ALFRED GODFREY SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION: Australia

Stipend allowance for up to three and a half years for a postgraduate research student to conduct research in the University of Sydney Law School.

Established by the WA Cooke, Jane Cooke, and Alfred Godfrey bequests, this scholarship has been made available by the generosity of three benefactors of the University of Sydney Law School. The scholarship is made possible by combining three separate bequests, all of which set the same terms and conditions.

ELIGIBILITY:

You must:

Have an unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Criminology (MCrim) (Research) or Master of Laws (LLM) (Research) within the Sydney Law School

Be willing to conduct research in the disciplines of law

Hold at least one of the following degrees in law:

An honours degree (first class or second class upper) or equivalent

A master’s degree by research

A master’s degree by coursework with a High Distinction or Distinction level, including a research component equivalent to 25% of one year’s full-time enrolment

A degree in Law together with research and/or professional experience deemed to be equivalent to first-class honors.

Note: Preference will be given to commencing candidates, though the Scholarship may exceptionally be awarded to currently enrolled full-time PhD, MCrim by Research, or LLM by Research students demonstrating progress towards timely thesis completion and exceptional research achievements.

Law students will automatically be considered for this scholarship. A separate application is not required.

Note: The award of this scholarship is subject to funding availability.

BENEFIT:

This scholarship can be awarded as either Primary or Supplementary scholarship.

When offered as primary, the Scholarship will provide a primary stipend allowance of up to $50,000 per annum as per the below duration:

Up to 1.75 years for a successful full-time MCrim by Research or LLM by Research recipient. No extension is possible.

Up to 3 years for a successful full-time PhD recipient with a possible six-month extension.

When offered as supplementary (stipend), the Scholarship will provide a supplementary stipend allowance to match a total stipend value (i.e., primary plus supplementary) up to $50,000 per annum as per the below duration:

Up to 1.75 years for a successful full-time MCrim by Research or LLM by Research recipient. No extension is possible.

Up to 3 years for a successful full-time PhD recipient with a possible six-month extension.

When offered as either primary or supplementary (one-off payment), the Scholarship value will be paid as a one-off payment on receipt of the Scholarship Acceptance Form. The value of the scholarship will be mentioned in the offer letter.
