UNIVERSITY OF MALTA ISLANDS & SMALL STATES INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIPS

LOCATION: Malta

The scholarships funded through the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism (MFT) are intended for students who are nationals of Small Island Developing States eligible for Official Development Assistance to enable them to follow postgraduate programmes offered by the Islands and Small States Institute (ISSI) at the University of Malta.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants who intend to apply for a scholarship must meet the entry requirements set out by the University of Malta and the conditions for joining the specific programme indicated above at the time of application. Applicants who can only be considered on a conditional basis (i.e. are not in a position to provide proof of attainment of the academic qualifications required to join the programme) at the time of application cannot be considered for the scholarship.

Applicants will be required to attend an online interview.

Applicants for other courses cannot be considered for this scholarship.

Applicants must be nationals of Small Island Developing States eligible for Official Development AssistanceDual nationals who also hold EU/EEA or non-SIDS nationality are not eligible. 

Candidates employed in public office or working actively with NGOs in their home country will be preferred.

The scholarship holder will be requested to enter into an agreement with the University of Malta and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Malta, for the duration of their studies. This agreement will be binding in terms of the observation of rules and regulations of the University of Malta, to seriously engage in studies, register monthly progress with his academic tutor/coordinator, and complete the set programme within the established time frame.

Only applicants who have obtained a full acceptance will be considered for the scholarship award. 

Applicants who have a conditional acceptance cannot be considered for the award of the above scholarships.

English Language Proficiency:

Applicants are required to present an internationally recognised English Language Proficiency Certificate at the required level. Further information about English language requirements for the 2026-27 academic year entry is available here

Candidates are expected to have the necessary IELTS results by the very latest 1st July 2026.

Expressions of interest for Masters by Research must reach the Islands and Small States Institute by 30 April 2026 by email.

BENEFIT:

Three scholarships will be awarded at Master’s level for academic year 2026-27.

These scholarships will cover:

University of Malta Tuition Fees

A EUR 1,000 research grant is available for a maximum of twelve (12) months only to cover costs for fieldwork (travel, primary data collection, and software licenses to analyze the data) against receipts.

XIAMEN UNIVERSITY NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2026

Application Deadline: April 10, 2026.

LOCATION: China

Xiamen University set up its own scholarships for international students studying in degree programs. Scholarship awardees will have their tuition fees covered. Moreover, monthly living allowances will be provided to outstanding postgraduates in accordance with the standards of Chinese Government Scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY:

Bachelor’s Degree Requirements:

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 30 by September 1st, 2026, be mentally and physically healthy, and possess a valid regular passport.

Applicants should be a graduating senior high school student or hold a senior high school diploma with a satisfactory academic record.

Master’s Requirements:

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens generally under the age of 45 (as of September 1, 2026), be mentally and physically healthy, and possess a valid regular passport.

Applicants should be a graduating student of an undergraduate’s program or hold a Bachelor’s Degree or above.

Doctoral Requirements:

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens generally under the age of 50 (as of September 1, 2026), be mentally and physically healthy, and possess a valid regular passport.

Applicants should be a graduating student of a master’s program or hold a Master’s Degree or above.

General Requirements:

Applicants should be a graduating senior high school student or hold a senior high school diploma with a satisfactory academic record.

Programs in Humanities, Economics, Management, Law, Arts: HSK 5 with a score of 210 or better (Applicants for the major in Chinese Language, please refer to the website of Overseas Education College directly for the HSK requirements.)

Programs in Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, and Physical Education: HSK 4 with a score of 210 or better

TOEFL iBT Certificate: an overall minimum score of 80 (XMU’s DI Code for TOEFL is C310

OR an IELTS Academic Certificate: an overall minimum score of 6.0

OR the English-as-medium-of-instruction Certificate from the high school where English is the primary language of instruction.

OR other equivalent English proficiency certificates recognized by XMU

Applicants from countries where English is the official language are exempt from this requirement.

BENEFIT:

The Xiamen University International Students Scholarship is offered in first and second class categories;

Bachelor’s: Tuition fees only

Master’s:

First Class: Tuition fees only

Second Class: Tuition fees plus ¥3,000 monthly stipend

PhD:

First Class: Tuition fees only 

Second Class: Tuition fees plus ¥3,000 monthly stipend
