ROYAL HOLLOWAY, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON MARY ANNING POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP 2025

Five scholarships are available for new full-time students with home or international fee status.

The scholarship is named after Mary Anning, a pioneering paleontologist who overcame significant financial and social barriers, and aims to improve access to postgraduate study and increase diversity within the discipline. As well as a cash award, it offers additional mentorship and networking opportunities to help students excel in their academic and professional careers.

ELIGIBILITY:

Offer to study Earth Sciences MSc by Research

Come from an underrepresented background, including but not limited to:

Low-income or socioeconomically disadvantaged

First generation university student

Black, Asian and other minority ethnic group

Disability

Women and other underrepresented gender identities in geosciences

Demonstrate financial need

Not be in receipt of conflicting funding ie students who have secured external funding or another Royal Holloway scholarship that fully covers tuition fees

The deadline to apply for this scholarship is 11.59pm (UK time) on Tuesday 1 July.

BENEFIT:

Cash award of £3,000 for new postgraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds studying for an Earth Sciences MSc by Research degree.

Application Deadline: midnight (UK time) on Thursday 12 June, 2025

LOCATION: England

One scholarship is available to a new postgraduate student with home or international fee status. It provides a tuition fee reduction, with any remaining funds provided as a contribution to living costs (where applicable). 

ELIGIBILITY:

Home or international fee status

Achieved, or be expected to achieve, a 2:1 degree or higher

Offer to study MA English Literature: Medieval Studies or MA History: Medieval Studies. 

You must provide a supporting statement of no longer than 500 words, which should include: 

academic achievements you are particularly proud of

why have you chosen to do the degree you have applied for 

How do you plan to use this MA in your future research and career path and how will the scholarship help you achieve it.

Your statement will be judged on how effectively and convincingly you respond to the above.

Applications which exceed the word count will automatically be rejected.

You must have a written academic reference letter (up to 200 words). This must be submitted by an academic who has previously supported, taught, or worked with you. Please ask the academic to email their reference letter (on official headed paper) directly to rhps@rhul.ac.uk
