GOGETTAZ AGRIPRENEUR PRIZE COMPETITION

Africa’s food sector faces mounting challenges in climate resiliencefood security, and nutrition. The need for groundbreaking solutions has never been greater. Are you an agripreneur leading the charge against these pressing issues? Do you have a transformative venture that’s making waves in the agrifood landscape? We want to hear from you.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Entrepreneur

Entrepreneur is aged 35 or below on the date of submission to the competition, and is legally recognised as an adult in country of nationality

Entrepreneur holds nationality (with an official ID) from a country which is a member of the African Union

Entrepreneur is the founder/co-founder of the venture he/she represents in the competition and plays an active role in its operations and leadership

Entrepreneur has no criminal record related to corruption, tax evasion, financial impropriety, felony, or other offence, and will provide a signed declaration to that effect, if requested

The Venture

Venture is already legally registered in a country which is a member of the African Union or will have commenced with the registration of such a legal entity prior to 3 June 2024

Venture is headquartered in a country which is a member of the African Union

Venture is designed to be financially sustainable, either as a for-profit business or a non-profit generating some revenue and aiming not to be dependent on donor funding

Venture plays a role in the agrifood sector and/or supports the development of the agrifood sector through an innovation or process improvement

The agrifood sector may be defined as businesses engaged in:

Agrifood research & development

Primary food production (farming)

Crop nutrition

Irrigation

Mechanisation, automation or robotics, including drones

Crop protection

Hydroponics or urban farming

Transport, distribution, storage or logistics

Food processing

Packaging or marketing

Food retail or service

Waste management or recycling

Digital or technology solutions/services to the agrifood sector

Innovative finance solutions/services to the agrifood sector

Renewable energy or environmental solutions/services to the agrifood
sector

Food system innovations (e.g., soldier fly larvae)

BENEFIT:

100,000 US Dollars in prizes will go to 2 Winners!

Impact Awards – The judges of this year’s competition will be looking to award ventures that make a significant impact in one or more of the following areas: improving rural livelihoods, nutrition, climate related solutions, technology, gender impact, natural resources conservation, and job creation

STANDARD CHARTERED WOMEN IN TECH COHORT 7 PROGRAM

LOCATION: Kenya

The program is an initiative of Standard Chartered in partnership with Strathmore University’s @iBizAfrica incubator. It combines world-class startup support with local and international experience to provide Africa’s most competitive and attractive startup incubation program focusing on immersive learning, mentorship, building and growing Africa’s next iconic startups taking on the continent’s most relevant challenges and opportunities with the support of seed capital.

ELIGIBILITY:

They are seeking to recruit the best entrepreneurial minds, women-led tech startups as key drivers of innovation in business.

The principle founder must be:

A woman.

Above 18 years of age.

Of Kenyan nationality or permanent residency.

The startups must be Kenyan registered companies which are building technological solutions aimed at mitigating Kenyan socio-economic challenges.

The selected startup ventures may be sector agnostic.

The startup ventures must embed components of emerging technologies in building their solutions ie. Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things; Big Data; Machine Learning; Robotics; Augmented & Virtual Reality; 3D & 4D Printing; Cloud Computing; Big Data; Blockchain; Drone Technology and Biometrics e.t.c within their respective sectors.

The applicants must be Women led startup ventures and the teams should be made up of at least 50% women.

Principal applicant must be the founder with a majority stake.

3 months to less than 2 years of operation seeking support for proof of concept, customer, product and business model development.

Pre-revenue with early traction (users). Post revenue is an added advantage.

Not received investment of more than KES. 500,000 and not participated in a similar program in the last 1 year.

Companies solving for any of the 17 SDGs.
