THE CANON FEMALE PHOTOJOURNALIST GRANT

For the twenty-fourth year in a row, Canon and Visa pour l’Image will be presenting the prestigious Canon Female Photojournalist Grant to an outstanding photographer in recognition of her contribution to photojournalism.

ELIGIBILITY:

Entry is free. The application dossier must be sent no later than May 21, 2024 and must be sent without acknowledgement of receipt to the following FTP:

Applicants must have completed at least one photo-reportage (published or unpublished): applicants must be professional photojournalists and applicants must be able to write and speak in French and/or English

The application dossier will include the following items:

a signed application form,

a copy of the Applicant’s identity card or passport,

an affidavit stating that the candidate is a professional photojournalist (attestation of honor written by the photographer or from an agency or from a newspaper)

 a curriculum vitae,

a letter in support of the application including a description of the photo reportage project (maximum 1 typed page).

BENEFIT:

The grant of €8,000 provides funding to support a compelling new project which will be featured as an exhibition at the 2025 festival.

TEJUMOLA OLANIYAN CREATIVE WRITERS-IN-RESIDENCE FELLOWSHIP

LOCATION: United Arab Emirates

The Africa Institute, as part of its African Languages and Translation Program, opens applications for its third cohort of Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship for the academic year, 2024. This residency program is created in honor of the late Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan and his remarkable intellectual legacy in the field of African literature and critical theory.

ELIGIBILITY:

The residency program welcomes applications from creative writers including novelists, short story writers, playwrights, poets and scriptwriters related to Africa and the African diaspora

The proposed project can be in Arabic or English (other languages will be considered).

The residency invites recipients to Sharjah, UAE for a period of three months to complete their work.

Applications must include: 

CV/résumé of the applicant

A two-page narrative of the project to be undertaken during the residency period, its significance, and a proposed date of completion.

A sample of published or unpublished writings.

BENEFIT:

A grant of 45,000 AED in total.

Recipients will have the opportunity to publish their texts through The Africa Institute’s publications program. Projects relating to theatre and film scripts can also be published as texts or receive support in facilitating productions. The project could be new or a work-in-progress and should be feasible for completion within the timeframe of the residency.
