CAMBRIDGE LOKE CENTRE FOR TROPHOBLAST RESEARCH (LOKE CTR) FUNDED PHD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

The Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research (Loke CTR) brings together 30 Principal Investigators with a shared interest in the scientific study of the placenta, early development and maternal-fetal interactions during pregnancy.

The Loke CTR offers one fully funded 4-year PhD studentship at home or overseas rates. Eligible PhD projects are advertised on our website. Each project is jointly supervised by two Loke CTR research groups, providing interdisciplinary PhD training in placental and reproductive biology.

Our PhD students have access to unique training opportunities to prepare them for successful careers in research. Students will present their research by giving seminars at our annual Loke CTR Away Days and Annual Meetings and attend a variety of seminars given by distinguished scientists with the Loke Centre and affiliated Department or Institute. There are also opportunities to participate and present in interdisciplinary seminars hosted by Cambridge Reproduction Interdisciplinary Research Centre, of which the Loke CTR is a founding member. Students will gain training in our Placental Biology Course and receive support from the Loke CTR to attend international meetings. Loke Centre PhD students will also become members of the Postgraduate School of the Life Sciences, which organises and promotes many further training opportunities.

Prospective students should review the currently advertised PhD projects and are strongly encouraged to contact potential supervisors in advance of applying. Initial inquiries to potential supervisors should be made as early as possible.

A limited number of Provost’s Assistantships and Dean’s Scholarships are granted to various academic departments within each College at the University of New Haven. All full-time domestic and international master’s students interested in a Provost’s Assistantship or a Dean’s Scholarship must complete their entire application packet for admission by the deadline for consideration.

ELIGIBILITY:

Provost’s Assistantship: This highly competitive program grants two types of work opportunities for new full-time domestic and international master’s students enrolling at the University of New Haven. Their highest-achieving incoming graduate students are offered a Provost’s Assistantship. Students selected for a position in this program will work up to 15-20 hours per week (550 total hours per academic year) for an academic department. In return, students will receive:

An experiential learning and work opportunity for the entirety of their graduate program.

Types of Provost’s Assistantships:

Research Assistantship: Students will aid in faculty-mentored research, conduct their own research, or conduct research for an administrative office related to the students’ field of study.

Teaching Assistantship: Responsibilities may include grading papers, preparing and teaching labs, and tutoring undergraduate students. Duties will vary by department.

For consideration of a Provost’s Assistantship, students must submit their completed application packet by the following deadlines. For the Fall semester, the Priority One deadline is March 1st, and the Priority Two deadline is April 1st. For the Spring semester, the Priority One deadline is October 1st, and the Priority Two deadline is November 1st.

Dean’s Scholarship Program: Full-time domestic and international master’s students are selected for a Dean’s Scholarship after a careful review of a new candidate’s application material on the basis of academic merit.

For consideration of a Dean’s Scholarship, students must submit their completed application packet by the following deadlines. For the Fall semester, the Priority One deadline is March 30th, and the Priority Two deadline is May 1st. For the Spring semester, the Priority One deadline is October 15th, and the Priority Two deadline is November 15th. After these deadlines, Dean’s Scholarships may be awarded if funding is still available.

BENEFIT:

Provost’s Assistantship: 75% tuition assistance

An hourly wage

Dean’s Scholarship Program: The program provides up to 50% tuition assistance during their enrollment at the University of New Haven.
