THOMSON’S YOUNG JOURNALIST AWARD 2026

Entries are now open for the Thomson Foundation’s Young Journalist Award 2026, one of the most prestigious opportunities for emerging journalists from across the world.

If you are 30 or under and reporting from a country with a Gross National Income (GNI) per capita of USD 20,000 or less, this is your chance to put your best work in front of international judges, editors, and journalists.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible, you must:

Be 30 or under on 30 November 2026

Be from, or reporting in, a country with a GNI per capita of USD 20,000 or less

Submit three pieces of published or broadcast work, produced in the 12 months before 9 August 2026. These can be in print, audio, video or multimedia format

Send a verification letter from your editor, on official letterhead, confirming the work is yours and was published or broadcast. Freelancers can provide a letter from a commissioning editor or a journalism academic familiar with their work

Entries close on 9 August 2026.

BENEFIT:

Three finalists will be invited to London to attend the Foreign Press Association Media Awards on 30 November 2026, where the winner will be announced before an audience of leading figures in global journalism. While in the UK, finalists will also visit major newsrooms and take part in a bespoke training session designed to help them strengthen their reporting skills and professional networks.

2026 INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION YOUNG JOURNALIST CONFERENCE

Transparency International would like to invite young journalists from all over the world who are passionate about fighting corruption to apply for our 2026 programme. They have 10 places available for journalists in the early stages of their professional career to join us at the International Anti-Corruption Conference in the Dominican Republic from 1-4 December 2026.

ELIGIBILITY:

The application is open to young journalists from all over the world 

Participants must be proficient in English, under 35 years old, and be prepared to develop at least one report and to secure coverage in a media outlet after the event.

You must be currently working as a journalist, with demonstrable experience of reporting on social, political, or economic issues. Journalists from digital, print, broadcast, or multimedia backgrounds are all welcome to apply.

You must be passionate about fighting corruption and committed to learning more about Transparency International and the issues we work on.

As part of a mentored programme participants will have the chance to join the conference discussions, interview leaders and activists, and build their knowledge of the latest trends in the anti-corruption space.

They are committed to creating an inclusive work environment where diversity is valued and where there is equality of opportunity. They actively seek a diverse applicant pool and therefore welcome applications from qualified candidates of all regions, countries, cultures, and backgrounds.

Selection for the young journalist programme is made on a competitive basis, and they do not discriminate on the basis of national origin, race, colour or ethnic background, religious belief, sex, gender identity and expression or sexual orientation, marital or family status, age or ability. They kindly ask applicants to refrain from including in their application information relating to the above as well as from attaching photos.

Successful participants are expected to develop a report linked to the topics from the conference and to independently pitch it to a media outlet. In addition, participants will be required to adhere to the conditions set out in a terms of reference and code of conduct.

BENEFIT:

The programme includes an economy return flight to Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic and 5 nights’  accommodation plus breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the conference hotel (arriving 30 November, departing 5 December 2026). Alcoholic drinks are not included. Transparency International will also reimburse visa processing costs, agreed upon in advance and on submission of receipts. Any other travel costs are participants’ responsibility.
