UNIVERSITY OF EXETER A.S. HORNBY EDUCATIONAL TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust prioritizes capacity building for English language teaching in low- and middle-income countries. It awards Master’s degree scholarships to teachers and related professionals with relevant experience and evidenced potential to impact and enhance the field of English language teaching and learning in their home country.

ELIGIBILITY:

You should only apply if you satisfy the criteria below. 

You must be a resident of and work in a country defined as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income according to the OECD DAC list (listed here). 

You must have a minimum of three years’ full-time TESOL teaching or related professional experience after your first degree. 

You must already hold an undergraduate degree (with grades equivalent to UK upper 2nd class honours or higher). 

You must not already be a holder of a doctoral degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, English, or a related area. 

You must not already be a holder of a Master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, English, or a related area from a UK university. 

Please complete the Hornby Scholarship application form hereThere is no need to apply for the MEd TESOL Programme first. We will contact applicants shortlisted for interview with instructions to apply.  

First, apply for a scholarship on the Hornby scholarship application form.  

Shortlisted candidates will receive instructions on how to apply for the MEd TESOL programme  

Award of a scholarship will be subject to acceptance by the University of Exeter on their MEd TESOL programme. 

Scholarships will be awarded to academically talented and experienced applicants who are nationals of and work in countries defined as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income according to the OECD DAC list (listed here). 

Please note this scholarship is only available for study on the University of Exeter’s MEd TESOL programme and is not available for PGCert or PGDip programmes of study.  

The Hornby Trust is delighted to be working with the University of Exeter to deliver these scholarships, and all applicants will be jointly considered by the University of Exeter and the Hornby Trust.

BENEFIT:

Up to ten (10) fully funded scholarships are available to students who meet the University of Exeter’s admission criteria for the MEd TESOL Programme for September 2026 entry.

GREAT – IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON SCHOLARSHIP

Imperial College London is inviting exceptional students from France, Egypt, Ghana or Nigeria to apply for the GREAT Scholarship Master’s programme. Available to applicants in the following departments: Aeronautics, Bioengineering, Brain Sciences, Business School, Centre for Environmental Policy, Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computing, Design Engineering, etc.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be considered for a GREAT – Imperial College London Scholarship, you must: 

Be a passport holder and a resident of one of the eligible countries: France, Egypt, Ghana or Nigeria.  These are the only eligible countries at Imperial; 

Have been classified as Overseas for fee status; 

Apply for a one-year full-time Master’s course (on-campus courses only)

Have received an offer of admissions to study for a one-year full-time Master’s course by 13 March 2026; 

Be available to commence your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in Autumn 2026-27. 

In addition to the above eligibility, applicants who are awarded this scholarship will be required to have met the university’s English entry requirements (Pre-sessional English courses are not supported by this programme) by 30 June 2026. If you have not met the English entry requirements yet, please make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible to ensure you meet this requirement by 30 June 2026.
