UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD CLARENDON SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR POSTGRADUATE AND DPHIL STUDIES

The University of Oxford is pleased to offer the Clarendon Fund for Graduate Studies. The purpose is to assist academically outstanding graduate students through their studies at the University of Oxford.

ELIGIBILITY:

There are no restrictions by nationality or country of ordinary residence.

All full-time DPhil and Master’s courses are eligible, as long as you have applied by the December or January deadline, whichever is relevant for your course. A list of all the graduate courses offered by the University of Oxford can be found on the courses page. Clarendon supports scholars from across the University, with no restrictions on subject area.

Candidates applying to start a new DPhil or Master’s course at Oxford are eligible. This includes students who are currently studying for a Master’s degree at Oxford but who will be re-applying for a DPhil or applying for a second Master’s course.

BENEFIT:

Clarendon scholarships cover course fees in full.  This applies to Home and Overseas fee status students.

Scholars on a full-time course will receive an annual grant for living expenses of at least the UKRI minimum doctoral stipend rate, which is normally sufficient to cover the living costs of a single student living in Oxford. In 2023-24, scholars receive at least £18,622.

THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIP

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded, full time, postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. Applying for the Scholarship is a challenge, but it is an experience which has helped generations of young people to succeed. They encourage applications from talented students everywhere.

ELIGIBILITY:

Rhodes Scholars come to the UK for two or more years and can apply to study most full-time postgraduate courses offered by Oxford University.

You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, the island of Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone, São Tomé and Principe and Togo.

You must be aged 18-24 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 1999 and before 2 October 2006). OR for medical, dental, pharmaceutical, law and engineering students, to allow you to complete your professional internship

You must be aged 18-25 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 1998 and before 2 October 2006) OR for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual

You must be under the age of 27 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1997) AND you must also have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2023*.

if you meet the University of Oxford’s requirements for an English Language test waiver, you may request a waiver.

BENEFIT:

The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford University course fees, as well as providing an annual stipend. For the 2025 academic year, the stipend is £19,092 per annum (£1,591 per month) from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation. Please note – this is not sufficient to cover partners or dependents.
