KNIGHT-HENNESSY SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY IN STANFORD UNIVERSITY, 2026

All Knight-Hennessy scholars apply and are selected for admission. Applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) is not simply checking off a list of requirements. There is no formula for admission, and there are no scores, achievements, or stories that automatically qualify you for admission. Instead, the KHS application is an invitation to show how you demonstrate our criteria in ways that are unique and distinct to you.

ELIGIBILITY:

Knight-Hennessy Scholars has no restrictions based on age, college or university, field of study, or career aspiration. We encourage citizens and residents of all countries to apply. We do not require applicants to seek endorsements from colleges, universities, or other institutions. Additionally, there are no quotas by discipline, program, or world region.

First, in addition to applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS), you must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program including, but not limited to, DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or PhD programs. You must meet at least one of the following four conditions:

You are applying separately but concurrently to KHS and a full-time Stanford graduate degree program such that you will start both in the same year.

You have already been offered and deferred admission to a full-time Stanford graduate degree program, and will apply to KHS such that you will start both in the same year.

You are a current Stanford graduate student who will apply to add a second full-time Stanford graduate degree program, such that you will start both KHS and the new program in the same year.

You are a current Stanford PhD student in your first year of enrollment, and will apply to KHS such that you will start KHS in your second year of PhD enrollment.  

Please note that the following Stanford graduate degree programs are not eligible for Knight-Hennessy Scholars:

Applicants to the Honors Cooperative Program

Applicants to the Master of Liberal Arts

Applicants to the Doctor of Science of Law (JSD) and the Master of Legal Studies (MLS)

Current Stanford students pursuing coterminal graduate study

Current Stanford PhD students adding an MA or MS degree in their current discipline

BENEFIT:

Knight-Hennessy scholars receive funding for up to three years for any graduate degree(s) at Stanford. This funding applies to the degree(s) to which scholars are preparing to enroll at the time of scholar selection.

During each of the first three years of graduate study, Knight-Hennessy scholars receive several types of funding:

A fellowship applied directly to cover tuition and associated fees

A stipend for living and academic expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses)

A travel stipend intended to cover an economy-class ticket for one annual trip to and from Stanford

THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GLOBAL (ANY OTHER COUNTRY/REGION)

Application Deadline: 23:59 GMT, 31 July 2025

LOCATION: United Kingdom

The Global Scholarships allow eligible candidates from the rest of the world (i.e. not strongly connected to any other Rhodes Scholarships Constituency) to apply for a Scholarship, subject to nomination.

You can request and receive nomination through the application form itself – you will not be able to submit an application for a Global Rhodes Scholarship unless a nomination from your institution has been received. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, the island of Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone, São Tomé and Principe and Togo.

You must be aged 18-24 on 1st October 2025 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 2000 and before 2 October 2007).

OR for medical, dental, pharmaceutical, law and engineering students, to allow you to complete your professional internship

You must be aged 18-25 on 1st October 2025 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 1999 and before 2 October 2007)

OR for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual

You must be under the age of 27 on 1st October 2025 (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1998) AND you must also have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2024*.

A university’s policy determines the date of completion of academic requirement for a degree and this may be different from when a degree is considered awarded by the university or the date of a graduation ceremony. In ambiguous cases, the decision of the National Secretary is final.

You will have completed an undergraduate degree (normally a Bachelor’s degree) by the application deadline with an academic background and grade that is a First Class Honours Degree or equivalent which meets or exceeds the specific entry requirements of your chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford

In the case of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy courses, the highest classification your University awards, e.g. a Distinction would be considered equivalent to a First Class Honours Degree. Candidates must also have achieved a distinction in at least three of the five following subject areas:
Medicine & surgery
Pathology 
Pharmacology 
Gynaecology
Paediatrics 
Candidates will have a greater chance of successful admission to Oxford if they have:

An Honours degree (or have taken an Honours year) from a University outside of your country or if you have studied to Masters level within your country (with the exception of those studying in Nigeria and Ghana, and, for some countries, those studying medicine). 

Candidates may wish to consider applying to the Rhodes Trust’s sister Foundation, The Mandela Rhodes Foundation to pursue an Honour’s year or a Master’s degree prior to making an application for the Rhodes Scholarship.

BENEFIT:

Full tuition and college fees at Oxford

Annual stipend of approx. £19,800–£21,450

Settling-in allowance upon arrival

Fees for visa and health insurance (IHS)

Two economy-class flights: to and from Oxford

Support for second-course visa renewal (if applicable)
