CDC ABEL VISITING SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The Abel Visiting Scholar Program is intended for mathematicians professionally based in developing countries to visit an international research collaborator for a period of one month.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must:

 hold at the time of application a PhD in Mathematics,

be based in a developing country at the time of application (As defined by IMU)

hold a position in a university/ research institution

be in the early stages of their professional careers, more precisely: the applicants should:

not yet be of full professorial rank but have a working contract in a university/ college.

be under 35 years of age at the day of the application deadline.

The maximum age may be increased by up to three years in the case of an individual with a broken career pattern. This should be noted in the application together with the reason for the broken career pattern. Applications from women mathematicians are strongly encouraged.

BENEFIT:

The grant can cover for one month and only for the applicant up to 4,400 EUR (5,000 Dollars):

Basic living cost for the first month (daily allowance based on living cost of the visiting country/city, This amount includes the cost for public transport and all other living costs). For a list please go here. If the accommodation includes breakfast or any other meals, the daily amount will be reduced.

Accommodation cost in the host country (hotel is allowed if the host provides a statement that no guesthouse or rented flat is available and max. 4 weeks. If you stay longer than 4 weeks you have to rent a suitable apartment or guesthouse). Receipts for cash payments for accommodation costs can not be accepted! You have to pay via a trackable transfer method.

IIASA YOUNG SCIENTISTS PHD SUMMER PROGRAM.

Application Deadline: 12 January 2024 (midnight CEST)

LOCATION: Austria

IIASA offers a summer program for PhD students to undertake a scientific project on a topic related to the IIASA research agenda. Two letters of reference are required (to be received by latest 24 hours past application deadline). 

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants from all countries are welcome, although IIASA gives priority to citizens or residents of National Member Organizations (NMO) countries.

The program is designed for Ph.D. students (ideally about 2 years prior to receiving their Ph.D.) working on a topic compatible with ongoing research at IIASA and a wish to explore the policy implications of their work. They will produce a paper (serving as the first step towards a publishable journal article) and will get the opportunity to build up contacts for future collaboration within the institute’s worldwide network.

Participation in the YSSP is only possible for one summer (however, you may apply several times) and you will need to be present at the institute (i.e. no fieldwork or working remotely) for the full duration of the program.

BENEFIT:

Applicants can choose to work with up to two programs. 

Participants will be working under the direct mentorship of an experienced IIASA scientist in a unique interdisciplinary and international research environment.
