LUIS FERREIRA ALVES INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The “Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Competition | A Contemporary Look at Architecture” is a biennial programme. It aims to honour the person and the work of this outstanding photographer, who bridged the gap between analogue and digital photography and whose work is recognised both nationally and internationally.

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all individuals worldwide, including university students, researchers, and professionals in architecture, photography, and related fields.

Entries may be submitted individually or as a group (groups must register as a single competing unit).

Each participant or group may submit only one project.

Entries must be original and must not have previously won awards in other competitions

Photographic Series: Submit a series of 5 to 7 images that cohesively present a work or series of architectural works.

Descriptive Text: Include an explanatory text (up to 2,000 characters) that conveys the conceptual and visual intentions behind the work alongside the series.

BENEFIT:

1st Prize—€10,000, sponsored by CIN.

2nd Prize—€4,000, supported by Fundação “la Caixa” in collaboration with BPI.

3rd Prize—voucher for photographic equipment worth €1,500, sponsored by Canon.
All prize winners will receive the book “Luis Ferreira Alves in the Works of Eduardo Souto de Moura.”

All prize winners will receive a certificate.

The winners will be entitled to 3 (three) copies of the exhibition catalogue.

ALPINE FELLOWSHIP WRITING PRIZE 2025

Application Deadline: 1st April 2025 at 23:59 (UK time)

LOCATION: United Kingdom

Awarded for the best piece of writing on the theme of Fear.

ELIGIBILITY:

All genres of writing are permitted, including fiction, non-fiction, and non-academic essays.

Open to all nationalities.

Applicants must be aged 18 or above at the time of entry.

All entries must be written in English.

You can enter multiple prizes.

A maximum of 1,250 words per entry (Please note: The word count has been reduced in 2025, so previous years winners word counts are higher).

Submissions must be standalone and cannot be extracted from a larger piece.

Stories must not have been published (not including self-published), or accepted for publication in print or online, or have won or been placed in another competition at any time.

Submissions will be judged anonymously, so please ensure that your name does not appear anywhere on your work.

Due to the volume of applications, the judge’s decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into following the results.

The use of generative writing programmes or artificial intelligence (for example, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) is strictly prohibited.

BENEFIT:

The winner and runners-up will receive financial support in the following amounts:

First place: £3,000

Second place: £1,000

Third place: £1,000
