CALL FOR PROPOSALS – SCHOLARSHIP FOR EARLY-CAREER RESEARCHERS FOR RESEARCH STAYS IN AFRICA

The Scientific Coordination Office (WKS) Bavaria-Africa supports Early-Career-Researchers with funds of the Bavarian State Chancellery to initiate and perform research in African countries and build international networks.

ELIGIBILITY:

Early-Career-Researchers (maximum age 35 at time of application submission) of any nationality, who are either enrolled in a PhD programme or are working in a Post-Doc position situated at a public University or University of Applied Sciences situated in Bavaria, are eligible for funding. The programme welcomes applications from any discipline.

The scholarship funds a research-stay in collaboration with an African (research) institution for a maximum duration of one month. The funding will be granted on a lump-sum basis, the payment will be transferred in advance to the research stay. This research-stay shall include collaboration components with African entities of the respective country, which must be described in the proposal. In general, visits to all African countries are eligible

BENEFIT:

The scholarship will be paid as a lump-sum fund for flight, accommodation and living expenses up to a maximum duration of one month. The maximum grant amount must not exceed 3,500€ and a detailed budget plan has to be provided in the proposal.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: ADVANCING CIVIC TECHNOLOGY AND DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT – STRATEGIC SUPPORT TO THE AU-ECOSOCC.

The Charter Project Africa, in collaboration with the AU-ECOSOCC, is launching a call for proposals to advance civic technology and digital engagement across Africa, aiming to strengthen democratic governance and citizen participation in continental institutions. The call invites prospective applicants to collaborate with AU-ECOSOCC in refining and enhancing their digital engagement strategy. The priorities include audience analysis, testing messaging and channels, developing an engagement strategy and establishing effective feedback mechanisms. 

ELIGIBILITY:

The Call will focus on the provision of support to not-for-profit and for-profit organisations (e.g. social enterprises) acting within the civic space & the civic tech ecosystem. In short, the following eligibility criteria exists for recipients:

The organisation must be a legal entity;

The organisation must be a non-governmental, independent of local, regional and central government, political parties and religious institutions;

The organisation can be a not-for-profit organisation or a for profit organisation, but must – in both cases- be strongly committed to advancing civic participation;

The organisation must be registered in an African Union Member State;

The organisation must be able to sign a grant agreement;

The organisation must not be bankrupt or being wound up nor having its affairs administered by the courts;

The organisation must not have received an adverse audit opinion, either by its own auditors or its donors’ auditors;

The organisation must have policies in place and/or practices in place to guarantee the ethical management of personal identifiable information;

The organisation must not have been the subject of a judgement for fraud, corruption, involvement in a criminal organisation or any other illegal activity.

BENEFIT:

The overall budget available under this current Call is EUR 30 000. The winning proposal will be supported over an implementation period of approximately five 7 months (to be confirmed at the time of contracting). The recipient will enter a grant contract agreement with the European Partnership for Democracy.

The selected candidate will work in close cooperation with the AU-ECOSOCC representatives assigned to follow the implementation of the grant, as well as any other tech expert embedded in the organ by other Charter Project Africa consortium partners
