2026 PTDF OVERSEAS POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR UNIVERSITIES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, GERMANY, FRANCE, AND MALAYSIA

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency responsible for developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, invites applications for its 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships.

This scheme offers opportunities to study specific programmes at selected partner universities abroad, providing access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise.

ELIGIBILITY:

Strategic Partnerships: For the 2026 award, applications will be restricted to PTDF partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia, where the Fund is satisfied that scholarship standards will be sustained and the Scheme’s objectives will be best achieved.

UK PhD to be Conducted as Split-Site at CPESK: With the establishment of the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), PTDF continues to advance its strategic objective of strengthening local capacity and domesticating key aspects of its human capital development programmes in alignment with national priorities.

CPESK is being positioned as a center for world-class postgraduate education, high-impact research, and strong industry–academia partnerships.

Accordingly, for the 2026 academic year, PhD scholarships in the United Kingdom will once again be limited to split-site programmes only, under which successful candidates will undertake research by splitting residency between CPESK and designated UK partner universities:

University of Strathclyde

University of Portsmouth

MSc applicants must:

Possess a minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in the first degree, or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience

Have completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)

Be computer literate

Possess five (5) O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics

Submit a Statement of Purpose (maximum 500 words) stating:

rationale for the proposed study;

relevance to the oil and gas industry; and

expected contribution to national development

Have a National Identity Number (NIN) and ensure it is fully verified prior to application (NIMC verification charges apply)

PhD applicants must:

Have completed the mandatory NYSC

Be computer literate

Possess five (5) O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics

Possess at least Second Class Lower (2.2) in the first degree and a good postgraduate degree

Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (maximum five (5) pages) covering:

Topic:

Introduction/background;

Objectives:

Methodology; and

Data collection approach

Have a NIN and ensure it is verified prior to application (NIMC verification charges apply)

In addition, all lecturers must also submit a letter from their Vice-Chancellors confirming that they are not currently benefiting from any other scholarship.

Interested candidates should apply through the PTDF website for approved programmes at the Fund’s partner institutions.

AKADEMIE DER RUHR-UNIVERSITÄT YOUNG INDUSTRY LEADERS’ SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION: Germany

In the Master-in-Energy programs at the EUREF-Campus Düsseldorf that are generously funded by Schneider Electric, students get the opportunity to become experts in the field of energy management and digitization, to be Young Industry Leaders, and to be ready to take on key roles in today’s industries.

ELIGIBILITY:

The available scholarships will be awarded to applicants admitted to one of the following programs:

Master of Science in Management of Smart and Sustainable Energy Systems

Master of Science in Sustainable Energy and Hydrogen Infrastructures

During your studies you will have the opportunity to get firsthand practical experience working at the interface between customer and technology in different departments at Schneider Electric. Thus, you can directly apply your recently acquired know-how in a real company context and shape the direction your career is heading.

Successfully completed selection process for one of the above-mentioned MBA programs

Excellent academic background in a technical field (electrical engineering, energy engineering, energy management systems, mechanical engineering, automation, process engineering, building technology, sustainability, or similar)

At least 1 year of relevant, postgraduate work experience; sales, project management, business development, or service experience are particularly valued by them.

Good German language skills at the time of application (minimum B1 or B2 level) and a willingness to continuously improve them.

Flexibility and willingness to work at locations all over Germany, Austria, or Switzerland after completing your studies, preferably in customer-facing or service functions

Enthusiasm for sustainability and truly digital mindset

Intellectual and analytical curiosity, a focus on community, and the identification with Schneider Electric’s IMPACT values

Please submit a motivation letter (addressed to Schneider Electric), a curriculum vitae, and proof of German language skills in addition to your regular MSc application. This can be sent to the course coordinator’s email address listed on the right side of the program page.

Please note that there is a multi-stage selection process. The decision regarding the scholarship will be announced two weeks after the final (online) interviews with Schneider Electric (March/April 2026).

Award: Full scholarship (100% of the tuition fees) and a paid working student contract (up to 20 hours/week) with Schneider Electric
