THE AFOX KENNEDY TRUST PRIZE STUDENTSHIP AT UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD

The Afox Kennedy Institute is a cross-university platform based at the University of Oxford with the aim of facilitating equitable and sustainable collaborations between researchers at the University of Oxford and African Universities

ELIGIBILITY:

Outstanding supervision from academics with world-class reputations, and an excellent management and mentoring programme, together multi-disciplinary research and strategic links with industry and Institutes and Universities in Africa

Exceptional research facilities in a new state-of-the-art medical research institute, with close links to the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and the Wellcome Trust funded Structural Genomics Consortium

First-rate track-record for thesis submission with additional measures of training success including publications and successful grant applications

Career support and training in core and transferrable skills, to ensure eventual establishment of graduates as independent investigators in national and international research laboratories (over 85% of students who graduated in the last 4 years have progressed to post-doctoral research, clinical posts or healthcare-related work)

BENEFIT:

A fully funded AfOx Kennedy Trust Prize Studentship to build links between African Universities and Institutes and the Kennedy Institute.

MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT MCGILL UNIVERSITY

Application Deadline: December 1st 2023.

A central goal of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is to create a globally educated and highly qualified group of future leaders, who, upon graduation, can return to Africa to help foster the region’s development. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Be admissible to one of the eligible non-thesis programs at McGill University: 

Animal Science: Sustainable Agriculture

Bioresource Engineering – Environmental Engineering

Bioresource Engineering – Integrated Food & Bioprocessing

Bioresource Engineering – Integrated Water Resource Management

Biostatistics

Biotechnology

Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry – Food Science

Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry – Food Safety

Human Nutrition: Project

Public Health

Public Policy (maximum of 5 Scholars per year)

Have never registered for /completed any graduate studies;

Be a citizen of, and reside in a Sub Saharan African Country (see list of eligible countries);

Have a valid passport and be admissible to Canada as an International Student (requiring a Study Permit). Those with dual citizenship, asylee, refugee or permanent resident status in the US, Canada, UK or EU are not eligible.

You are welcome to apply even if you do not identify with a Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program priority group (listed below), however those who self identify with one of the following groups will be given precedence in the selection process.

Have an intent to return to your country immediately upon the completion of your degree with the goal of transforming your community through social and economic development;

Must be less than 35 years old at the time of application.

BENEFIT:

McGill complements Scholars’ education with a comprehensive support system that includes mentorship, tailored support services, community service opportunities and sustained programming relevant to their personal development. Scholars also receive guidance and funding for two internships in their home countries during their studies. These internships aim to sustain the Scholars’ connection with their home countries and build a path toward meaningful employment post-graduation.
